In pics: Soha Ali Khan enacts molestation scene

Mumbai: Recently Soha Ali Khan had to film a very uncomfortable scene. In fact, the actress requested the director to shoot the molestation sequence within closed doors, without allowing any still photographer to be present in the room.

In her upcoming film based on child trafficking, she plays an NRI, who gets molested by a group of goons. Our source says, "Soha was emotionally drained while shooting the sequence. In this particular scene, the goons drag her down to the floor and rip off her shirt and manhandle her."

Producer Vibha Dutta Khosla adds that being a thorough professional, Soha understood that the scene was essential to the storyline and immediately agreed to shoot for it. Assistant director Ramzan who was present during the shoot says, "While doing the scene, Soha was badly bruised and even had to take medical aid."

Kareena is already family: Soha Ali Khan

A few days ago, it was reported that actor Saif Ali Khan had confirmed his plans to marry Kareena Kapoor in February-March 2012. And even though Kareena is yet to talk about the wedding, Saif’s sister Soha Ali Khan says Bebo is “already part of the family.”

 “All of us are very fond of Kareena Kapoor. Besides being fully supportive, she is a very caring and nice person. Both bhai (brother) and Kareena are very good together. 

She makes him happy and completes him in so many ways. They make a very good couple,” said the Rang De Basanti (2006) actor a few days ago, adding that the entire country is looking forward to their marriage.

“Their relationship has become very strong. Both Kareena and bhai have grown a lot as a couple. Since both of them have openly declared that they want to get married next year, we are completely expecting a marriage,” said Soha.

In the above-mentioned report, Saif had stated that he and Kareena would definitely get married by early next year.

“We plan to get married in February 2012 after Agent Vinod releases, but if the film’s release gets delayed we will still get married by March. We won’t postpone the marriage beyond that anymore,” he had said.

'Soundtrack' postponed for Soha: Director

The release of " Soundtrack" was postponed from Sep 30 to Oct 7 because of lead actor Soha Ali Khan's father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi passing away and not due to too many films releasing that day, the film's director Neerav Ghosh has revealed.

It has been a tough fortnight for Soha. She was in the middle of promoting her new film when her father had to be hospitalised. Bravely, the daughter continued with her nationwide promotion. And then the worst happened.

Soha's father passed away, leaving her too broken to even think of the film. The film's producer Saregama and director Neerav Ghosh had two options. Either to go ahead with the promotion without Soha or postpone the release.

I’m glad that Saif and Kareena are in love -- Soha

Actress Soha Ali Khan, sister of Saif Ali Khan and daughter of the yesteryear’s Bollywood queen Sharmila Tagore, recently in an interview with the TOI, got candid about her career, brother and his lady love Bebo.

Contrary to the scuttlebutts which had it that Saifeena’s relationship is on rocks, Soha told the tabloid that Saif and Kareena are happy together and she is glad that the star couple is head over heels in love with one another.

Talking about her brother and his sweetheart, Soha said, "I am glad that Saif and Kareena are in love and happy together. But when they choose to get married, is up to them. Their marriage is not going to affect my career in any way." 

I am hungry for more, says Soha
Soha, who has worked in a number of films till date, hasn’t yet achieved that stardom, which her mother and brother have bagged for themselves.

The actress played prominent roles in films like ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’, ‘Dil Kabaddi’, ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’ and ‘Tum Miley’. Though these films didn’t fare well at the box-office, they did fetch Soha critical acclaim for her acting skills.

When asked if she was content with her career in the industry, Soha said, "I don't know if anyone is ever happy with his/her career. If you are ambitious, then nothing is ever good enough. I'm happy in a way, but there is a lot more to achieve, and I am hungry for more.”

I don't have any plans for life—Soha
Soha Ali Khan, who is alleged to be dating actor Kunal Khemu, articulates that she has not planned anything for her future.

On question about her marriage, the babelicious babe stated that he has no plans to walk down the aisle at present.

"I have no marriage plans yet. In fact, I don't have any plans for life," revealed Soha.

Currently, Soha is busy with her future ventures ‘Soundtrack’, ‘Chemistry’ and Deepa Mehta's ‘Winds of Change’.

In ‘Soundtrack’ Soha plays the character of a deaf woman, whereas in ‘Chemistry’ she portrays a tomboy.

Talking about her imminent movies, Soha said, "In Soundtrack, I play a woman who is hearing impaired. My teachers from the Helen Keller Institute made sure that I got the sign and body language of a hearing impaired person right. It took time, but we finally did it.

“In Chemistry I play a tomboy whose ego has taken a beating after being dumped by her boyfriend. She is full of herself, is mad, has red hair, and wears bizarre clothes. She is not worried about anything.”

Soha set for Harvard

Soha Ali Khan is on cloud nine. The actress has been specially invited by the acclaimed Harvard University to deliver a lecture on Hindi cinema in an interactive session titled Cinema – Then and Now.

What's making the Oxford grad's visit to Harvard even more special is the fact that her mother, Sharmila Tagore, would be joining her during the session. The event will also screen Soha's works like Khoya Khoya Chand, Rang De Basanti and Antarmahal.

She will pay tribute to icons of Hindi cinema like Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Waheeda Rehman and her mother Sharmila Tagore in her lecture. "I'm quite excited and tense about my Harvard visit," says an excited Soha. "I have never really delivered a lecture on cinema before and I will be in front of the most academic followers of Indian films there. It's a really humbling experience that I have been chosen by them to speak about Indian cinema and that my films are also being screened."

About her lecture, Soha discloses, "I have done a thorough research of the cinema we have created over the ages. I have a pretty huge period to cover in my lecture, but I will touch upon landmark films, directors and actors who have made huge contributions in shaping up cinema as it is today. I will specially talk about how Meena Kumari, Madhubala and Waheeda Rehman and also my mom helped Indian cinema to shape up as it stands today."

She adds, "I will also talk about the actors and the directors (both commercial and art-house genre). Though commercial films might be called brainless films, they are films that the masses like and thus cannot be ignored at all. "

Working with ammi was bit scary: Soha Ali Khan

New Delhi, March 25 – Facing the camera with her mom was not an easy task for Soha Ali Khan who was ‘nervous’ while shooting with Sharmila Tagore for the film ‘Life Goes On’. This is the first time the duo will be seen together on screen. 

‘I didn’t forget my lines or anything, but I was nervous because she has a very good aesthetic sense,’ Soha told IANS in an interview here.

‘When in a good mood, she is amazing. But when in a bad mood, it’s like the worst thing ever. But she was very good and restrained during shooting and also suggested to me to follow director Sangeeta Datta’s instruction carefully,’ added the 32-year-old actor who was here for an event.

‘Life Goes On’ opens Friday and it is an emotional drama about generational conflict set in contemporary London.

Asked about her expectations, she said: ‘I have no expectation and I have learnt not to expect anything from films. Yes, it was great working for the movie. I got a chance to work with ammi (Sharmila). It’s quite an emotional movie where the journey of the loss of a mother and family is portrayed in a sensitive way,’ she said.

Banker-turned-actress Soha made her debut with Anant Mahadevan’s 2004 film ‘Dil Maange More’ and featured next year in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Rang De Basanti’.

For Soha, getting into showbiz was not an initial career choice, but thanks to her actor brother Saif and her mother, it soon became her profession too. Despite coming from an illustrious film family, she is still struggling for her share of limelight in tinseltown.

After the debacle of ‘Tum Mile’, Soha is hoping for a better future in Bollywood.

‘I was offered a variety of roles, which range from practical to interesting to downright outrageous, but things didn’t work out well. This year you will see me in a variety of roles,’ said Soha.

Her first release will be ‘Chemistry’ with Shreyas Talpade. Co-produced by Shreyas, the love story revolves around two people dumped by their respective partners and their lives afterwards.

‘It’s a mad role and you will see me in pink hair in it. My character is between Charlie Chaplin and Devanand Sagar. The character was a bit out of my normal acting range as I do more intense films. There is a lot of improvisation and laughs,’ she said.

‘I am also doing a film called ‘Sound track’ which is opposite Rajiv Khandelwal. It is an official remake of Hollywood comedy ‘It’s All Gone Pete Tong ‘. Rajiv plays DJ and I play a girl who is born deaf. I find the role very interesting. It was difficult to get into that mode because I can’t imagine life without sound and you can’t work it out either. So I kept on forgetting the fact that I am playing a deaf girl,’ said Soha.

Talking about her personal life, Soha, who is dating Kunal Khemu, said she is ready to settle down in a couple of years.

‘I am in comfortable space and we (Kunal and Soha) are happy with our career graphs; so whenever the right time comes, we will announce our marriage,’ she said.

What about Saif who said he’ll get married before her as he’s the elder brother?

‘That’s not necessary. I don’t have to wait for anyone because I don’t want to. If he takes 10 years then I will never wait. I don’t know how long he will take, he might tie the knot tomorrow!’ she said.

Every project is a first: Soha Ali Khan

She hasn't been seen on the big screen since the 2009 release Tum Mile, but that doesn't mean Soha Ali Khan has taken a cinematic hiatus. 

Her last release was supposed to be Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, which has been delayed for more than a year. However, she's been keeping herself busy shooting for films in "a whole gamut of genres" that she hopes will all release this year. Her next film, Life Goes On..., is very much a family affair and not just because it's a family drama. "This is the first time I've worked with my mother ( Sharmila Tagore) and perhaps the only time I'll work with her because she keeps threatening to retire. But I don't take her seriously in that regard," Soha tells TOI.

The film, which is set in London and is about how an Indian family comes to terms with the loss of the mother (played by Sharmila), will see Soha play a character very much like herself. "It's just me with a British accent. Of course, the fact that my mother plays my mother makes it all the more real. My character, who's the youngest of three siblings, is also someone who has been very protected and molly-coddled by her father and who's always keen to make her parents proud. She's very much like me — I have a big desire to make my father proud and it's crippling to me to disappoint him," explains Soha.

Right now, Soha's working on Soundtrack, which is the remake of the 2004 film It's All Gone Pete Tong about a DJ who goes deaf. "I play the girl in his life who's born deaf. It was quite challenging for me to learn how to play a role like that. I had to learn sign language and work on the speech a little bit because there will be a speech impediment," she says. There's also Chemistry, her first comedy, and Accident, her first horror film. When told that it seems to be a year of firsts for her, Soha says, "That's what excites me about cinema — getting a chance to try out new things. Every project is a first."

Unlike her contemporaries, Soha doesn't seem to have joined the rat race to be Bollywood's numero uno heroine. She also hasn't shied away from talking about her relationship with Kunal Khemu on the pretext that it would detract from her career. "I haven't experienced that yet. Obviously, there is an interest in your life. People like to know about it and read about it. They can also get ahead of themselves and ask when you're getting married; if you're married they want to know when you're getting divorced. But once it's out there, there's no scoop. So there's nothing interesting to talk about other than whether you're in a fight or secretly married. But people have the right to ask and you have the right to say 'no comment'," she says as a matter of fact.

While she is candid about her personal life, the one thing Soha won't discuss is her role in Winds of Change, the film adaptation of Salman Rushdie's Booker Prize-winning Midnight's Children. "I'll get into huge trouble if I do," she laughs, adding, "All I can say is that I'm in it and very excited. I think I'll be allowed to talk about it soon."

Soha Ali Khan’s Parents Approve her Decision to Marry Kunal Khemu

Mumbai, Feb 12 -  The tinsel town grapevines were abuzz about the relationship between Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Khemu. However, none of them have stated any thing to the press about their relationship. This is in contrast to Soha’s brother Saif Ali Khan. Saif is having a rock steady relation with the Bollywood glamour queen Kareena and is open to the media about it; even the couple doesn’t have any inhibition to let the world know that they are having a live in relation. 

Finally, Soha broke the silence and during an interview stated that she and Kunal will be ready to get married in a couple of year. The Kalyug actor and Soha have been noted dating each other previously in several occasions, in the course of past two years. The actress adds that they have met each other’s parents and have their approval for the marriage. 

Soha is concerned about her cooking skills and though she knows to cook up one or two dishes, she needs to take up cooking classes as she wishes to cook for Kunal, who is a great foodie.

On asking the actress whether she will wait for her elder brother, Saif Ali Khan to get married; the actress patly replied that she can not wait for her brother to get married, if he takes up another ten years to take the vow.

"Both Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan have been approached by a lot of film directors to come together on screen as mother and daughter, but they never agreed as they were not convinced about the script," says director Sangeeta Dutta,

She has accomplished the feat of getting the mother-daughter duo Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan together for the first time in her debut movie titled Life Goes On.

According to Sangeeta, it was the script and tight screenplay that sealed the deal. "What they really appreciated was the bonding between the mother and the daughter that comes naturally in the movie. It wasn't forced, and that's what both of them liked," Sangeeta tells us about the film.

And how was it working with both Sharmila and Soha? "Well, they both are great actors, but Sharmila is a legend. She has been there for so many years and has worked with the likes of Satyajit Ray, Shyam Benegal and others. She raises the bar with every movie. She is a perfectionist," Sangeeta says, adding, "Sharmila would get involved in the preparations from the core – be it costumes, dialogues, make-up – she wanted everything to be perfect. Soha is a natural. She brought the fun element on the sets."

Though complimenting Soha's acting prowess, Sangeeta says that Soha was terrified to work with her mother. "As an actor Soha is very relaxed, but on day one of the shoot, she was absolutely terrified. You see, Sharmila as an actor has tall demands, and one has to work hard to match up to her charm and charisma. But Soha sailed through and I'm sure the audience would appreciate her dedication and hard work in the movie," she says.

What after Life Goes On? "I'm working on a script, and it would definitely be a more ambitious project. The story would talk about a woman's journey — her journey from India to abroad and then back to India. It would be more on the lines of a biopic," shares Sangeeta. Does she have a lead actress in mind? "I would ideally want somebody of Vidya Balan's calibre to do that role. Though I haven't spoken to her or any star as yet," Sangeeta concludes.

Soha Ali Khan to marry Kunal Khemu

Soha Ali Khan is going steady with her beau Kunal Khemu for few years and Soha said that marriage is also in the card not immediately but after few years. Both of them have received the approval of their respective parents and Soha said that she will be ready to walk down the aisle with Kunal in a couple of years.

Soha, who has been dating the 'Kalyug' actor for the past few years says, "I am in a comfortable space. We are both independent with our careers going well. We have met each other's parents and have their approval. I think I'll be ready to settle down in a couple of years."

Currently, Soha is busy in learning and trying different dishes for her beau as Kunal loves eating a lot. She says, "Kunal loves good food, and I know to cook just a couple of dishes. I can make stir fried chicken, which I think he likes, but I have made a resolution to learn to cook more dishes, especially 'Rogan Josh' and 'Kashmiri dum aloo."

Soha Ali Khan is upping her game. Let's start with her looks first, which has undergone a dramatic change post her sexy photoshoot for Maxim magazine.

Now, the actress is experimenting with her roles as well. After the intense role in Mumbai Meri Jaan, the pretty kid sister of Saif Ali Khan will be seen in a light-hearted movie about relationships aptly titled Dil Kabaddi.

Directed by debutant Anil Sharma, the film also stars Rahul Bose, Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Payal Rohatgi and Rahul Khanna. Nithya Ramani got Soha talking about the film and how it feels to play Irrfan Khan's wife. Excerpts:

What is Dil Kabaddi about?
It is a comedy about the games we play when we are in love, especially relationships like marriage. There are two couples in the film -- Konkana Sen Sharma-Rahul Bose, and Irrfan Khan-myself.

I am very excited to play Irrfan's wife because I'm a huge fan. Though I got an opportunity to work with him in Mumbai Meri Jaan, I never actually got share screen space with him.

Doesn't it seem like an odd pairing?
Yes. He is like a 100 years old and I am 12. In the film, he leaves me for someone younger.

At ease with her role in her upcoming film Dil Kabaddi, royal beauty Soha Ali Khan seems to be totally in a comic mode. While Soha is happy doing the comic role, she has a new wish list ready, already.
"I have never done a romantic films before, it’s all about romance now," the 30-year-old beauty told TIMES NOW.

The nawab's daughter, who consults her mumma - actor and TV judge Sharmila Tagore before signing a film now wants to do an out and out romantic film.

Explaining her character in the film, Soha said, "The film is about marriage and relationships. I am married to Irfan in the film. My name is Nita and I am a cosmetic surgeon by profession. But, when it comes to managing his husband, who is far more impulsive, there is disconnect there; and she doesn’t mange that too well."

Soha has been quite a gift to the industry. She has shown her acting prowess in intense dramas, period films; and now she is trying her hand in comedies like Dil Kabaddi.
With a couple of comic flicks at hand, the royal princess wishes to tread the path of romance. We just wonder if Kunal Khemu's the reason for the urge to do romantic Movie.

Mom Sharmila Helping daughter soha teach Bengali Dialogues

Altough soha have done two Bengali films, Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan still gets her mother veteran actress Sharmila Tagore to speak the dialogues for her to get the Bengali accent right.

“I get my mother to say all of my dialogues and I record them and listen to them later to better my accent,” she added.

“I can't speak Bengali at all but I can understand it. It's difficult because I have had to memorise my lines with much more effort. It's a lot more work than required in Hindi and English films,” Soha told IANS.

“I'm doing 'Goinar Baksho' (The Jewellery Box) with Aparna ji. It's a film that we have been planning to make since a long time and finally the dates and stuff have been decided. Am really excited, it's a lovely script,” Soha said.

The actress was seen in Anjan Das's “Iti Srikanta” and in Rituparno Ghosh's “Antar Mahal”. She is now doing another Bengali project with Aparna Sen.
