Sameera Reddy ditches Mumbai for Goa

Sameera Reddy was to perform on New Year's Eve at the Bandra Reclamation in Mumbai but headed out to Goa with friends apparently leaving the organisers in the lurch.

She suddenly took off to Goa on December 28 and was spotted partying on the 31st. A friend of the actress, explains, "It's not true. A protest rally was held in Mumbai last Saturday and so, getting certain permissions were an issue. Besides, Sam hadn't been paid for the event. 

Also because of lack of permissions, the event was cancelled." Sameera adds, "I had offers to perform in Dubai, Delhi and Chandigarh but chose Mumbai to be close to my family. It's sad that the organisers weren't given the required permissions."

Sameera wants to be a businesswoman

Actress Sameera Reddy never thought or wanted to be an actress, though today she is happy being an actor.

So, what did she want to be in life? "I wanted to be a businesswoman. I am an actor by chance. Business excites me. The whole thing about building a brand, selling it, marketing it and making it famous is exciting. I still wish I could be a businesswoman. May be, sometime later in life after I stop acting, I will take up business seriously and live my dream," says Sameera.

Which business newspaper does she follow closely, we ask. "I pick up the Economic Times first thing in the morning before checking any other paper, even when my interviews or any articles related to me is published on any given day. I have to read the EconomiC Times first."

When asked why has she never played a businesswoman on screen so far, Sameera replies, "I would love to play a businesswoman. But unfortunately, no one has offered me such a role so far. You know what! I will do full justice to the role, so someone please offer me a role of businesswoman. Between, I am also waiting to play a cop on screen."

The "Phas Gaye Re Obama" director loves the traditional culture of the city and the simplicity of its folklore. Even if it's work, the director makes sure he visits Chokhi Dhani and eats the scrumptious Dal Baati Churma. "Though the food is oily, it's difficult to resist. The ambience is amazing and the way the food is served is quite unique," says Subhash Kapoor. "Also, whenever I come to Jaipur, I make sure I buy jootis and pick up Jaipuri razaai", he adds.

Arya Banerjee, Actor
Diamonds are a woman's best friend and for actor Arya Banerjee, whenever she comes to Jaipur, she just can't get enough of the jewellery at Amrapali. "I love its jewellery. They are gorgeous," she says, adding, "Also, I have never been to the Jaipur Literature Festival. But now i've decided that no matter what happens, I'll attend it the next time."

She comes to Jaipur often as she has a lot of friends in the city. "Rajasthan is one of the most beautiful states in India and the people here are very hospitable," says the dusky actor. Yes, even she has her favourite place to visit when in Jaipur. I am a diehard lassi fan so I visit the famous Lassiwallah on MI Road."

A UP person at heart, he feels that jo maza local shops ya market mein hai woh five-star hotels mein nahi hain. "I love the raj- kachori in Jaipur and whenever I'm here, I eat the Rajasthani thaali," he shares. "I make sure I lay my hands on the authentic mojari that is found in the city's markets like Bapu bazaar. when I come here to watch a match, I do all the fun things the city is famous for," he adds.

For her, Jaipur is a treasure-house as she invariably has a long list when she visits the city. Be it Rashid home-studio for block-printed shirts, Ratan Textile for hand-stitched mulmul shirts or jadau jewellery found all over the city, she loves them all. Also, the Anokhi Café is front-of-mind for Mrs De, as she just has to have the Thai salad from there.

Manav Gohil, TV actor
"I love the Rajasthani Lal Maans and whenever I come to Jaipur, I gorge on it," says TV actor Manav Gohil. Plus, the jootis from the local bazaar of Jaipur are something to die for and he makes sure he has them. "The jootis are amazing and whenever I come to the city, I get loads of them." However, one thing he hasn't done is captured Jaipur and since he is fond of photography, Manav says, "I am looking forward to capturing Jaipur and its scenic beauty." Plus, Rohit Kamra is a great friend and I always buy breeches, Jodhpuri jackets, etc from him," he adds.

'Munni' too vulgar for National Games

"Munni Badnaam Hui" might be the rage, but not in Jharkhand. Sameera Reddy realised when she reached to perform this song for the 34th National Games in Ranchi.

The organisers of the show found the song to be too bawdy for such a solemn moment. The actress had no option but to perform her own song 'Tere Ishq Se Meetha Kuch Bhi Nahi'.
It was deemed less vulgar by authorities. A source present there said, "Sameera was performing for the ceremony in Ranchi.

She had rehearsed for Munni Badnaam Hui, but when she reached the venue, the organisers did not want her to shake a leg to this particular song.

They told her that it is too not appropriate for this function." Sameera was sporting enough to comply.

Vivek Oberoi to perform at National Games

Ranchi, Feb 12 – The 34th National Games will open here Saturday evening with Bollywood stars Vivek Oberoi, Amisha Patel and Sameera Reddy performing for the 33,000-strong audience. 

Jharkhand’s ace archer Deepika Kumari will light the Games’ flame, to be followed by a march past by the participating teams. 

Shweta Tiwari, winner of reality show ‘Big Boss 4′, will anchor the show while singer Sukhwinder Singh will croon his way with popular songs. 

A film on polio eradication is to be played at the opening ceremony. It is to be followed by a ‘polio walk’ — by volunteers sporting T-shirts with polio eradication message.

The three-hour extravaganza will also see performances by school children, a ‘Bihu’ dance by local tribal artistes and a fire dance by local artistes. There will also be a dazzling display of fireworks.

Jharkhand Governor M.O.H. Farook will formally inaugurate the Games in the presence of Chief Minister Arjun Munda and Toursim Minister Subodh Kant Sahay.

The sporting events will begin Sunday. Besides Ranchi, Dhanbad and Jamshedpur will also host many events.

Sameera Reddy to run marathon next year?

Actress Sameera Reddy has a sexy body, but the actress thinks she can get even sexier.

And the secret, she believes, lies in running the marathon. She told us, "A friend of mine trained for the marathon and lost a lot of weight. Just maybe, I should start running, too." A lot of actors associate themselves with marathons held in the metros of Mumbai.

Some diligently participate in it, while others from the fraternity are there to support a cause. Gul Panag ran the Delhi marathon, and had a terrible eve-teasing experience. Rahul Bose, Purab Kohli, Milind Soman, Siddharth Mallya are others who give this long distance run their best shot. Anyway, next year, don't be surprised if you spot an even sexier Sameera Reddy running the distance in some athletic hot pants.

Making it to the finish line is quite the way she likes it.

Sameera: How can you romance me, Veera?

He's smart, she's sweet. He's bold, she's bright, He's witty, she's wise. Veera and Sameera Reddy, who play the lead roles in Gautham Vasudev Menon's next film, Nadunisi Naaygal, may not share a lot in common, save the trust they have in their director's ability to make good films and the faith they have in each other's professionalism.

But that doesn't stop the two from being good friends and from bringing down the house whenever they are together. A classic example follows...

CT: It's good to have two intelligent people discuss their film...
Sameera: Two? There's only one here and that's me (sporting a wicked smile). But then, jokes apart, I will have to say that Veera is extremely hardworking. I've known that side of his right from the time we were working on Vaaranam Aayiram (VA). Veera was an assistant director then. The friendly equation was there right from the start of VA and it has continued. I felt very comfortable working with him except on the first day...(a confused look on our faces gets Veera to interrupt...)

veera (with a smile): When Gautham sir decided to do Nadunisi Naaygal, he called up Sam to tell her about it. She, because of the immense faith she had in him, did not ask for details and gave her dates straightaway. She had no clue that I was to be playing one of the most important characters in the film. So, when she arrived on the first day and heard the story, she asked, 'Who's the psycho?' to which Gautham sir replied, 'Veera is doing it.' And she began to laugh ... (Sameera cuts in at this point with a laugh...)

Sameera: To be honest, I thought it was a big joke. But then, all credit to Veera, I think he has come a long way. At no point has he taken anything for granted and worked really hard to prove himself. In fact, everybody who doubted him in the beginning has appreciated him in the end.

veera: I happened to watch a Bengali film in which Sam had acted and it was a performance-oriented role, which she had done beautifully. We often do not realise the immense potential our actresses have and confine them to glam roles. In fact, the kind of work Sameera has done in Nadunisi Naayagal has been fantastic. It's a tough, demanding role which is generally scripted for heroes.

Sameera: There's one particular scene in this film for which Gautham made me put my face in muck. I had to lie flat and put my face in the dirt with Rottweilers' snarling at me. It was a difficult and scary thing to do as on the one hand, you had the muck and on the other, growling rottweilers, with their saliva dripping, and their trainers egging them on to be even more ferocious.
(Veera interrupts: I wouldn't have ever done that)

Sameera: Though the Tamil audiences love commercial cinema, they also appreciate realistic cinema and I think Gautham is cashing in on that fact.

veera (with a wicked grin): It's only fair that this conversation ends with the question, 'When is Gautham sir going to make a love story with Sameera and me in the lead?'

Sameera: (laughing): Yeah, right! But how can you romance me, Veera?

veera: Why, Sam? I could sing to you with a guitar. I could be romantic...

Sameera (still roaring with laughter): Yeah, like the romantic way in which you drag me by my hair in this film and try to drown me in a tub of water? That's a romantic idea and I'm going to try that out this Valentine's Day.
