Sheila and Munni fights it out on popularity chart

Munni Badnam Hui conceptualised by Lyricist and Music Director Lalit Pandit has created an up-roar in the Hindi Film industry. With a figure many women would envy and a great sense of rhythm Munni sways to the music in a manner that would leave the audience thumping their feet to the beat of the music. As for Malika Arora Khan this was the first time that she was seen on a home production. The thumka’s along with the nasal voice of the singers Mamata Shankar and Aishwarya gave the song masala to take Munni to the heights it has reached.

Sheila on the other hand a product of Tees Maar Khan is a dance that the Hindi Film audience is going to remember for a long time. This song is choreographed by Farah Khan and has the audience captivated by the rhythmic movement of Katrina Kaif.

Tantalizing moves catchy words and lovely figures of both Munni in Munni badnam Hui and Sheila in Sheila ki jawani leaves the audience enthralled. Music director Vishal and Shekhar along with the Lyricist Vishal Dadlani have combined English words and music to give Sheila the correct spice of life. The voices both of Sunidhi Chauhan and Vishal Dadlani, gives an out of the world feeling which helps the audience sway to the rhythm.

All choreographers pick both these songs for dance competitions as they too are aware of the great fan following of these two item numbers and expect a major vote from the audience too. The difference of the two films is that the character Munni is an item girl and not the heroine in the film while Shiela is the heroine in her film.

Sheila correctly mentions in the song that she is here to “drive you crazy”, and although she is very sexy she teases saying “Main tere haath na aani”. Munni too on the other hand teases saying “le Zandu balm hui darling tere liye”. This sends the audience in a split of laughter.

Both these songs which are called the item numbers of the films carry so much weight that even critics have to refrain from criticizing the film as the audience will go ahead  and disagree. For people who have seen these films are bound to agree that Malika Arora Khan and Katrina Kaif have done a very good job. They have both carried the film to a great success and of-course the directors knew the correct ingredients for a film to do well. The correct spice is a song and a dance number which sweeps the audience to their feet and makes them happy as they come out of the pains of the real world.

Farah Khan the choreographer for both films is aware of the popular movements and is able to load the song with the correct moves. Malika is a dancer herself and must have found it comparatively easy to shoot for the sequence while Katrina who is basically an actor trained for the belly dance moves to give the song the correct effect. Both have put up such a spectacular show that it will be the talk of town for sometime and a learning point for many choreographers and directors.

Thumbs- up for both Sheila and Munni for making people buy tickets to watch a entire film for a dance which is well talked about.

Tees Maar Khan, Toonpur Ka Superrhero: Weekend Box Office Collections

Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan had a great opening on Friday with an estimated collection of Rs.12.75 crore on the first day.
The movie has managed to garner its position at the number three in the great openings list .The number one position this year has of course been occupied by Dabangg with an astounding collection of Rs.14 crore on the opening day. The number two is still occupied by the Raju Hirani film 3 Idiots with Rs.13 crore at the box office.
Tees Maar Khan had collected an estimated Rs.13.50 crore on the second day, i.e., Saturday and it was a great day for the film makers. Director Farah Khan was extremely pleased that the movie had collected more on Saturday and had tweeted about it too. The collections on Friday and Saturday put together were somewhere between 26.50 crore, which was quite a good one. However it remains to be seen, if this movie can bring about a reasonable collections in the first weekend after Sunday’s collections are registered.
The first weekend collections of Dabangg was Rs.48.5 crore and 3Idiots was Rs.40 crore. Thus it remains to be seen if TMK manages to come anywhere near the first two in the list of big collections on the opening weekend.
The other release Toonpur Ka Superrhero was not much of a money churner and official figures are yet to be out. It was however quite a dull opener on the first day itself.

Tees Maar Khan Review

Movie Review: Tees Maar Khan;
Director: Farah Khan
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Akshaye Khanna;
Rating: **1/2

Farah Khan tried all the industrial tricks to give a real hit during the Christmas with the hit pair Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in Tees Maar Khan. However, all the hypes created around ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ could not safeguard this latest Farah Khan flick.
Akshaye Khanna plays a superstar Aatish Kapoor, who dreams to win an Academy Award one day. Katrina is a wannabe actress Anya, who also happens to be the girlfriend of Tees Maar Khan (Akshay Kumar). The conman disguised as a Hollywood filmmaker ‘Tees Maar Khan’ plans a big train robbery of 10, 000 kilograms of antiques and goes for a fake shooting of a film. He even goes on signing Aatish Kapoor as the hero and appoints some villagers for this purpose.
But then, the viewers will scratch their hair to find logic behind Aatish signing for the act. The film does not have the typical flavor of Farah Khan films. It seems she messed up the things after signing Akshay and Katrina or more concentration went to the much talked item number ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’. The spice factor is missing and tries to go by the slapstick way.
The film is a remake of 1966 movie Caccia Alla Volpe but one change in the Hindi version is that the robbery is shifted to train than the original ship. However, Farah could play around the interesting train plot and somewhere the magic and charm got lost. It seems Sheila is the only spicy thing in the story with her raunchy choreography.

Kat breaks down due to Salman’s comment

Salman Khan And Katrina Kaif in Bigg Boss 4
Being with ex-flame on national TV is something very awkward and Katrina Kaif has to face this for promoting her film, ‘Tees Maar Khan’ on Bigg Boss. As the camera switched on, her uneasiness clearly appeared. She felt uncomfortable to stand by Sallu’s side and answer his odd and embarrassing questions. Salman is known for his good sense of humor and presence of mind. His very quality drove the actress to the rim and out of embarrassment, she broke into tears.
He took a dig at her on working with Ranbir Kapoor with whom she is rumored having an affair with and her favorite co-star Akshay Kumar. He also poked fun at her toota-phoota Hindi.
Says a source, "Before the shoot, things appeared extremely cool. When Farah and Katrina arrived on the sets, Sallu played the perfect host.

They even indulged in a game of cricket at his chalet, near the Bigg Boss house. While Farah chose to be a spectator, Kat did a bit of batting while Salman bowled.

Everything looked fine but once the cameras rolled, so did the host's witty remarks which were outright sarcastic."

Adds the source, "As Farah
stepped inside the Bigg Boss house, Kat was left alone on stage for a greater part of the show. At first, she played along but after a point she couldn't take his digs."

She broke down and drew back to her make-up room.  When she returned, the portions were re-shot. The offending parts were edited.

Farah maintains, "Katrina did not show that she was upset by Salman's comments at least not in front of me. I reached the sets late, so I don't know what happened before."

The source continues, "Kat was professional enough and stuck on, teary- eyed, as she was there to promote TMK.
Earlier also Kat appeared on Sallu's 'Dus ka Dum' but so such things happened.

Sheila Ki Jawaani, TEES MAAR KHAN and naming of the songs

All the Sheilas of the world may be rather flabbergasted by the odes being paid to their "Jawaani", through the song, Sheila Ki Jawaani from TEES MAAR KHAN, but Hindi cinema has been rather consistent in their efforts to include names in songs right from the time when Shashi Kapoor followed in the footsteps of his elder brother Shammi Kapoor to jig. It is an ephemeral phenomenon that lasts for the time being, and later on people forget it.
The difference from those times to these times could lie in the fact that now there is such a big proliferation of all kinds of media and the nature of interactive embedded in them, the names may be difficult to go out of the vogue for some time. Otherwise, do we at all remember that a Jumma was asked to give a chumma by Big B in HUM? Well, at the time when HUM was released, the song was a rage. Or for that matter, O Maria O Maria from SAAGAR must have enraged quite a lot of Marias, and they would have rued about their names. Or for that matter, does anybody have an inkling that a song called "mera naam hai shabnam, pyaar se log mujhe shabbo kehte hain" from the film KATI PATANG was also an all time hit during its time?
As a matter of fact the phenomena of naming the songs after a female name is not relegated to the world of Hindi cinema, it is a distinct reality in the world of English pop as well. One of the most famous bands of its times Smokie had two all time great hits named after two female names, one was Shelly called, and the second was O Carol. If one were to do a search for these songs in the Google search, one would find that these two songs are the songs that have maximum download. But neither a Shelly nor a Carol protest when these songs are played even to this day. Possibly, it could be owing to the fact that there is a sense of understanding in the audience that these songs are in context of the film, but the Romeos of the times try to capitalize on the song to play mischief with the girls having either of these names.
The moot point is these kind of songs come once in a blue moon and it is only coincidental that the names being written in the lyrics have numerous faces associated with the name and they have to live with the (in)famy associated with the song for the time it is in vogue.

Katrina drops her clothes for TMK

Katrina Kaif sheds her inhibitions for the item number ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ in ‘Tees Maar Khan’. She is going to soar the temperature at the box office with her raunchy item number. Its choreographer turned filmmaker Farah Khan who has brought the sexier side of Kat for the first time on-screen. Buzz is that Katrina Kaif looks really hot and sexy in white satin saree half draped.

When enquired about the song, Farah said, “‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ was supposed to be a raunchy item Bhojpuri kind of song as Katrina`s a wannabe actress acting in sleazy films

but the song shaped out to be classy and a mix between Chicago and Broadway. I have never seen Katrina looking both hot and sensuous at the same time. In her earlier films, she`s dressed mostly like a Barbie doll.”

When Farah was asked whether it was tough to get the consent of Katrina, she said, “Katrina really trusted me and didn`t argue even once when I told her what she had to wear. She just told me that she needs to start working out and tone her body more. I never told Katrina to lose weight. We shot ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ in five days and every day we had a new set and new costumes. For the satin bed sheet, we had a 10 feet rotating bed with the men around her. She would shoot with us and then go and work out at 11.30 pm so that her abs would be toned. Her dedication is tremendous. She didn`t feel awkward with so many men around. The more they screamed and cheered for her, the more she got a high and her energy levels increased."
