'Raaz 3 can never be as dramatic as my life'

Vikram Bhatt brings his life on screen yet again with Raaz 3.

The first time he did so was in Ankahee, which had echoes of his relationship with actress Sushmita Sen.
In Raaz 3, he draws on his relationship with Ameesha Patel.

Vikram Bhatt tells Patcy N why Raaz 3 benefits from his personal experiences and what the horror genre means.

Mahesh Bhatt has said that this film is based on your life.

Trust Bhatt saab to say something controversial. I have had a relationship with two actresses. I have lived with them closely.

However beautiful a woman may be, she gets cold feet, she gets angry, she fears, she has insecurity-she is a human being. I have had the fortune of seeing very glamorous and beautiful woman close up and I have seen their fears and insecurity.

When we were making this film in which Emraan (Hashmi) plays a director who is caught between two superstars, I could bring something to the film that nobody else could because I have seen this with my own eyes.

Raaz 3 can never be as dramatic as my life.

After 'Jannat 2' Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta romance in new Raaz 3 song

Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta's screen chemistry has reached another level in Raaz 3 after 'Jannat 2'. There're hardly any steamy sequences in the new song Zindagi Se but the duo's eyes say it all.

Raaz3 revolves around a film director (Emraan Hashmi) caught between two superstars (Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta). In the Film, Bipasha gets so jealous of Esha's success that she resorts to black magic to get rid of her. Emraan, who loves Esha, can do anything to save her.

The film marks the third installment of the Raaz series. While the first one featured Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea, second part had Emraan Hashmi, Kangna Ranaut and Adhyayan Suman.

Jacqueline Fernandez and Niharika Bhatnagar will be seen in cameo appearances.

The film is expected to release on September 7, 2012.

Actress Bipasha Basu says that she agreed to work in Vikram Bhatt's Raaz 3 because she wanted to show how actors' struggle in real life to attain fame and success.

"We all go through a struggle but we choose not to show it. But it is very important to address it at times and connect. This is why I agreed to do this character," Bipasha said during the launch of the first trailer of the film.

'Raaz 3' to unveil the dark side of Bollywood

Mumbai: Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt's forthcoming venture 'Raaz 3' which contains a slice from Bipasha Basu's life, says, the model-turned actress is not having a good run in the industry primarily due to the competition from the younger lot in the tinsel town.

A lot of films like 'The Dirty Picture' or the upcoming release 'Heroine' revolves around the meteoric rise and downfall of a superstar or a supermodel. Vikram Bhatt's directorial venture, 'Raaz 3' also appears to be similar, as it focuses on two actresses - Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta -- with Emraan Hashmi playing the role of a director.

"The need for Bollywood stories is enormous, people are enchanted with it. There is a reality of the industry that we know. We have given the film a horror idiom by including black magic. The story is very much true," Bhatt said in an interview.
"It also coincides with Bipasha Basu's life where she is feeling the breath of extinction as the younger girls have come in who may elbow her out. Today Bipasaha is not as safe as she was 10 years ago when she came into the industry," he said.

Releasing September 7, 'Raaz 3' talks about the turbulent times of an actress, played by Bipasha and how she begins to turn to black magic to destroy a budding star (Esha) and get back the man (Emraan) she loves.

The tag line of 'Raaz 3' states 'When desire becomes evil'. "There is a fierce competition that exists among film stars and their appetite to stay on top can make them do anything. We have known people in the industry who have conned or have gone to the extent of killing their associate," the 63-year-old filmmaker said.

'Raaz 3' also has some references of director Vikram Bhatt's life. "Vikram came from a very vulnerable point in his life. He had just come out of a traumatised relationship with an actress," Bhatt said. However, he clarified that they were not looking to malign the image of the actress through their film.

"It was not to malign the girl. It was to show how we as human beings in the world of entertainment are so pathetic when it comes to losing it. Whether it is the heart breaking story of Rajesh Khanna spiralling down into the abyss or it is Vikram's own beloved girl who would throw a fit in the middle of the night because she feels that she is losing her stardom," Bhatt said.

"All this is somewhere a part of our industry. Celebrities flashing at parties and premiers are not the same in real life," he said. Earlier, Jacqueline Fernandez was to be part of 'Raaz 3' but due to certain reasons she chose to walk out.

"Jacqueline was going to do the film. Post 'Murder 2' she had some reservations with the kind of clothes that Vikram wanted her to dress up in. He felt that there is basic discomfort that had sunk in her mind," Bhatt said.

"There is a certain amount of erotica in the film which is necessary. We gracefully parted ways. Jacqueline has complete right to a say a no if she is uncomfortable," he said.

Vidya Balan says goodbye to saree

At least for Raj Kumar Gupta's Ghanchakkar, wherein she plays a vibrant housewife

Vidya Balan and a saree had become synonymous. Be it in films, events, award functions or even Bollywood parties, the actress would drape herself in the nine yards that had more or less become her uniform. And thus, to see the woman in anything but a saree, was refreshing.

Dolled up by her designer Subarna Ray Chaudhari, in a harem salwar, a black and blue distress tee-shirt and rubber sandals, Vidya looked every bit the Punjabi homemaker she plays in Raj Kumar Gupta's next, Ghanchakkar. Add to that, she was in an extremely playful mood when we met her on the sets of the film at Essel Studio, Trombay. Here's what transpired...

While everybody was ready to roll - lead actor Emraan Hashmi even rubbed his hands in glee, proclaiming, "Time to kick off a new venture. Exciting!" - Vidya wasn't too sure. Reason: she saw a cat. . "Cats are indeed scary. I am sure you know of many people who are petrified of cats. Shut the door," she demanded a quick removal of the animal before stepping in.

Interestingly, both the actors, till a couple of years back had to put up with either actors refusing to work with them or scathing articles in the media about their fashion sense.

"It's not easy for actors like Vidya and I, who often swam against the tide. Till date, I don't see myself in the kind of cinema, which is reassuring for certain figures," quipped Emraan. And we understood why The Dirty Picture jodi had instantly clicked.

Director's Cut

While Emraan reflected on their careers, director Rajkumar Gupta, who had thus far made social dramas like Aamir and No One Killed Jessica entered the sets. "Emraan is a brilliant actor and Vidya is an ocean of talent. I am so happy that I am working with those people who I wanted on this project," he told us and surprised us by revealing, "Ghanchakkar is a comedy. It gives me a big kick to get into a space, which neither my two lead actors nor I have really indulged in before. Writer Parvez Sheikh had given me the story of Ghanchakkar much before I completed No One Killed Jessica. But I didn't know whether I would translate it into a film. He has co-written the film and it flowed beautifully."

Emraan, whose last film Shanghai met with mixed response sounded confident about this UTV Motion Pictures venture. "Sections of the trade were very unfair. But I was very happy with Shanghai. Ghanchakkar will be a masala entertainer that you have not witnessed before. I have an aversion for slapstick comedies. Thankfully, Ghanchakkar has comic elements that don't feed you with buffoonery. I would rather see a cartoon instead," said he.

With this, we moved on to the scene that was about to be shot. "This studio houses the home where Vidya and Emraan are staying temporarily," explained the director and Vidya interrupted, "Watch him direct. He sits before the monitor with his hands posing as scissors and then he shouts 'Cut' and does a 'Scissor' sign." As soon as the scene begins, we realise how right the actress was. By this time, we are dying to know whether the 'serial-kisser' Emraan and 'ooh-la-la' Vidya will have some steamy scenes to share this time around. "Of course," Gupta ended the suspense and added, "They have to behave as husband and wife na?"

Colourful Woman
Ghanchakkar is a quirky film that narrates the tale of Emraan, an ex-conman who is laid back and has a taste for finer things in life. And his ambitious Punjabi wife, Vidya, who has her own notions about the world. " She wants a better life. Every woman wants a better life. I play someone jiska sapna hai ki uska pati use kabhi Europe ghumane le jayega.

She is a colourful Punjabi housewife. Colourful in terms of her personality. A mast character," Vidya explains her character with much gutso. "That man has an edge. His sense of humour is quirky. He knows how to tell a story. He is open to improvisations. What better environment you need," she adds about Gupta, who will be directing her for the second time. As we were about to leave the set, we learnt that designer Chaudhary is in hospital. "Her fever is not going down. It would have been great to have her here. I am sure she'll join us soon," added Vidya.

I've never been conscious of my body: Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu, who has posed in itsy-bitsy clothes for a bold poster of Raaz 3, says she had no reason to hire a body double for the shoot as she is comfortable with her toned body.

Read: Bipasha Basu is explosive on the first poster of Raaz 3

"I have always been comfortable in my skin and never been conscious of my body," Bipasha said in a press statement.

According to insiders, producers were reluctant to approach Bipasha for the shoot, given its controversial nature and had considered using a body double, and later morphing the actress's face onto the model's body.

However, Bipasha insisted on shooting for it herself.

"When I learnt about the concept (of the poster), I decided to do it. I had no qualms. It's my movie and I should be shooting for the poster. I understand that it was required to show the film's theme in the right light, so it was the right decision," she added.

The poster of the horror film features Bipasha in black shorts and a black bikini top. She exudes confidence with her newly toned, washboard stomach.

Raaz 3 is directed by Vikram Bhatt, presented by Fox Star Studios and produced by Vishesh Films. It also features Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta.

The film will release on September 7, 2012.

When Esha Gupta had to rip off her clothes on the sets of RAAZ 3

While shooting for Vikram Bhatt’s RAAZ 3, actress Esha Gupta was asked to rip off her clothes and scream in front of as good as crowd of 300 people. The actress was alarmed hearing this and asked the director if he could skip the scene. However, being the pivotal scene of the film, the actress had no other option left than to do it.
Recalling her experience on the sets, says Esha, “There was this scene in the film… I won’t reveal much about the situation related to it. However, would definitely like to recall the incident. The scene goes this way… Sanjana (Esha’s character’s name in the film) enters a party hall where people are enjoying the mood and having a good time… But Sanjana has totally lost it and she has no control on her state of mind due to the extensive black magic power and stuff happening to her.”

She further adds, “So, I had to wear this sexy gown. And suddenly, Sanjana starts visualizing and sees those ghosts or you can say some shadows coming towards her and just passing through her body, her hair, her ears, her eyes and from everywhere! And there I had to start screaming and just try to get rid out of it.”

“Sanjana had to get involved so much into it that she starts ripping and tearing off her clothes just to get rid out of the shadows and spirits. Now, my trouble started from there. Trust me I was just wearing a skimpy tube top and those ‘extremely short’ short pants. It was really an awkward moment to act it in front of so many people. And I just said NO to Vikram that I can’t do it, when I got to know about it. There were around 200 to 250 extras called for this scene,” she continues, “But, Vikram was very confident about it. He said, ‘I know you can do it. I know you’ll do it.’ Even my makeup artist Shaan and my friend Rik Roy they came to me. They made me relax, calmed me down and finally I gave my shot.”

“And guess what happened after the scene. Everybody liked it. People out there started clapping. I could hear my crew members saying, ‘good job’. They all appreciated me. Vikram just came and hugged me. Emraan too liked it. He said, ‘You’ve done great Esha’. What more could I have asked for!” said Esha on a parting note.

Emraan races past his competitors

JANNAT 2 is most awaited. For varied reasons. One of the major reasons being, it stars Emraan Hashmi as the protagonist. Emraan has had a dream run at the box-office, with back to back hits in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI, DIL TO BACHHA HAI JI, MURDER 2 and THE DIRTY PICTURE.

No other actor, except Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh Khan, has had a string of successes in the recent past. Among the younger lot, Emraan has delivered the maximum hits non-stop, with his last two films proving monstrous hits.
Now with Karan Johar and Yash Raj signing the underrated actor, Emraan has raced past his contemporaries, consolidating his status as one of the most bankable stars in recent times. And with [forthcoming] films like SHANGHAI and RAAZ 3, helmed by directors who are known to extract wonderful performances from the lead actors, Emraan is sure to make the detractors notice his talent.

That Emraan enjoys tremendous popularity amongst moviegoers is evident from the fact that his solo hero films open exceedingly well at the ticket counters, a feat not many actors can boast of. And if JANNAT 2 opens big and works big time, Emraan would only be cementing his status as the darling of the masses. This one's an acid test for this talented actor!

My Eid will be a family affair says Emraan Hashmi

Actor Emraan Hashmi says his Eid will be a simple affair and that he will celebrate it with family and friends. "It is a very simple Eid. I go and pray in the mosque with my dad.

Then couple of guests comes over. A grand menu of food is cooked at home," Hashmi told IANS. "It's only family members, friends and guests who are close to the family will come and we will celebrate Eid together. Not anyone really from Bollywood," added the 32-year-old. Hashmi, known as a serial kisser, has worked in films like "Gangster - A Love Story" and "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai".

I Felt Comfortable With Bold Scenes: Vidya Balan

She is at her boldest ever in "The Dirty Picture", but actress Vidya Balan says she never felt a sense of discomfort shooting for the movie as she was in the "trusted hands" of director Milan Luthria.

"I have never enjoyed being a woman more than I did while shooting for 'The Dirty Picture'. I wasn't uncomfortable doing bold scenes because I knew I was in trusted hands," Vidya told reporters here Tuesday. The actress, who reprises late southern siren Silk Smitha's rise and fall as a glamourous star in the film, spoke at the theatrical launch of the film. The movie also features Tusshar Kapoor, Emraan Hashmi and Naseeruddin Shah. "I have worked with Naseer before but this time it was easier...I was less nervous this time," said Vidya, who had teamed up with the veteran actor in "Ishqiya". On working with Bollywood's serial kisser Emraan, with whom she has locked lips in the film, she said: "I was wondering how it would be with Emraan, but it was fun." The trailer promises viewers that Vidya would indeed be seen in a never-seen-before avatar in the film, which is set for release Dec 2.

I Like Cheese Gorge: Sonal Chauhan

Most people had the same reaction when they saw this slender and tall beauty dressed in a black outfit - 'she is the same girl for whom Emraan Hashmi broke the glass in the film Jannat!'

It is none other than Sonal Chauhan about whom they were talking. She looked fresh, lively and vibrant. "In real life also I like things that are larger than life. I am single but I would surely want a guy who does something like what Emran did for me. I don't believe in mediocre stuff," she says.

In Ahmedabad for a promotional tour, unlike her counterparts she just didn't talk about Gujarati food but also sampled it. Khandvi, khaman, sandwich dhokla and Chinese samosa were all laid on the table for her. "Being a Delhite I have tried Gujarati snacks in Delhi but the taste that Ahmedabad gives, can't be compared. I have friends in Mumbai who are from Ahmedabad. It feels good to be here," says Sonal who's earlier come to the state during Navratri.

Now Sonal has all the reasons to smile. Talking about her experience of working with Amitabh Bachchan in Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap, she says, "I feel it was sheer good luck that I got to work with him. It was an amazing feeling to work with a legend like him. Not everyone gets such a chance and that is why I can't stop thanking God enough," says Sonal who is busy with a jewellery show, a romantic untitled Bollywood film and South films.

We are sure she has now pushed her limits and would definitely want to work with the three Khans - Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman. "There are lots of actors that I want to work with. The list is long," she laughs.
Today many films are being directed by newcomers. So is she open to working with them? "I think it is an advantage to work with young directors. They relate to today's youngsters. It is good to see so many talented people making such wonderful films. The connection with the audience is also much better," she avers.

Compliment her on her fabulous body and she says it's all in her genes. "No one believes me, but I'm a complete foodie - I love to gorge on cheese, fried food, chicken and chocolates. I have never gone on a diet. I do work out but don't really follow a daily fitness routine. It is all inherited and I wish I can stay like this and eat everything without thinking twice," she laughs.

Sonal loves to unwind after her hectic schedule by pampering herself and believe it or not she's fascinated by snakes. "I love to pamper myself by going for massages. Not many know but I love snakes. I am fascinated by them. I'll probably be scared of them when I see them in a jungle, but otherwise I am okay with them," says Sonal on a parting note.

Ouch. Cold-blooded: Jacqueline in, Yana out

A song that was picturised on Yana Gupta is now being aired on TV with Jacqueline

The Bhatts have triggered off a war between Yana Gupta and Jacqueline Fernandez. Zara Kareeb Se, an item song that was picturised on Gupta for Murder 2 is now being aired starring Fernandez and co-star Emraan Hashmi.

Interestingly, when the song first got a face lift, director Mohit Suri had reportedly said Gupta's song was "too gory" to be shown on television. Now the explanation for her absence has changed.

"I didn't want to disclose villain Prashant Narayanan's identity before the film's release and Yana was shown dancing with the villain, " said Suri.

Sources say the truth is simpler. "Jacqueline is the new blue-eyed Bhatt girl. She has already been signed on for Raaz 3 and will probably be acting in Murder 3 too. Yana got left in the cold."

Gupta, however, sounded stoic, when asked about the episode.

"Of course I would have loved for my version to be aired. I hope it will be at some point. But it's not my song, you know. It's just a job. I give it my best shot and what happens to it later, I leave to God."

Murder 2: Model-actor Pinki Gaur to sue Bhatts

For using her photos indiscriminately in 'Murder 2'

Considering that Bhatt productions are always courting controversy, one can understand their latest venture being caught in the eye of a storm.

Though it does come as a surprise that Murder 2 has got into trouble 10 days since its release. Model-actor Pinki Gaur is all set to send a legal notice to Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt's production house, Vishesh Films, for using her photograph without her prior consent.

Pinki, who has featured in shows like Dil Dosti Dance, Karam Apna Apna recalls being informed about her photograph being used in Murder 2.

"There's a scene, where an agent is talking about supplying prostitutes and showing pictures of a number of girls. One of the snaps he shows is mine, and he says that she's gone out on work, " says Pinki, adding that she was astonished as she had never given any of her photographs to Vishesh Films.

However, through a friend who works with Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt's company, she learnt that they had obtained permission from a model coordinator who had given them her photographs.

Pinki avers that there should have been an agreement with her. "How can they use my photograph in their movie just like that?" she wonders, maintaining that, "There was no contract, nothing at all. Just using my photograph for a scene like that is not acceptable to me."

She further says that while it may not matter to the producers, her snap featuring in a scene where a character is showing photographs of prostitutes could affect her career.

Pinki concedes that her friend suggested she send the notice to Vishesh Films, which she's doing today. "If they don't reply, then I can file an FIR against them for using my photograph like this, " asserts the model-actor.

Possible goof-up

While Mahesh Bhatt says, "If you've seen the film, you'll understand that it's not our intention to malign, demean or tarnish the image of the people whose photographs feature along with that of Yana Gupta, on whom the scene zeroes on."

He conceded that a trainee in charge of putting the props for the particular scene might have goofed up. "Instead of getting the images cleared by the department seniors, the trainee bungled up, maybe out of sheer oversight or lethargy, " he admitted.

Bhatt further reasoned that going the legal way could in turn be a cause of hardship for the girl concerned, so he'd rather resolve the issue arbitrarily.

"If the lady wants a graceful apology from Vishesh Films, I've no problems with that, " he stated, adding that nothing would come out from her going to court. "Because our courts are already burned with far more important cases. So it's best to resolve it arbitrarily."

Emraan Hashmi and sex are a formidable combination!

With the success of Murder 2, Emraan Hashmi insists he has graduated from a serial kisser to a bankable star. In five years, he says that his returns will be on par with the Khans
The weekend collections of Murder 2 have surprised even the detractors of the Bhatt brothers.

Trade guru Amod Mehra says, At a conservative estimate, the film will gross approximately 15 cr on the weekend.''

This coupled together with the money Mahesh and Mukesh raked in on the electronic sales
such as satellite and home video rights should total up to 10 cr reportedly. So in other words Murder 2 is a huge
hit in just three days after the release. In fact as the week continues, more money will obviously pour in.

Mehra says, Emraan Hashmi is a lucky mascot for the Bhatts. He has usually earned them megabucks.''

Emraan's own standing in Bollywood has been consolidated after this film.

He is one of the few heroes who has been consistently giving hits. Last year he had Once Upon A Time in Mumbai

and this year he has Murder 2.

Says another trade analyst, Earlier people said Shah Rukh Khan and sex always sell. Now it is being said that Emraan andsex are a formidable combination.''
