Freida romances Batman

Tree Of Life director Terrence Mallik has cast Freida Pinto in his next project, Knight Of Cups, along with Batman actor Christian Bale.

A source reveals that the story is about a man in search of love and truth, and that Mallik watched all of Pinto's previous films before casting her in the project. The source says, "Freida and Christian broke the ice immediately. They have casually bumped into each other at Hollywood events in the past, but never worked together. During the shoot they were quite playful and flirty."

The film also stars Oscar winners Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett.

Freida Pinto back in March for Bollywood

Post-Slumdog Millionaire’s (2008) success, she has travelled across the world for personal and professional reasons. But Mumbai girl Freida Pinto finds her hometown very inspiring and simply electrifying. The actor was in the city till about two weeks ago, following which she has returned to Los Angeles. 

The actor, who plans to visit Mumbai in March next, feels the city charges her for new projects. 

“Every time I get a break from filming, I visit Mumbai. Of course, my family is settled here. But I strongly feel that the city charges you up for the next thing. For me, it’s of course my new projects,” she says.

The Immortals (2011) actor contends, “There’s something about the city that’s simply electrifying. It’s very inspiring in a way. Plus, on an everyday basis, you get to meet people from different strata of society. And the kind of mixture (of people) you get in Mumbai is very difficult to find elsewhere in the world. It’s amazing to come back, get that vibe and go back charged.”

Freida’s sister Sharon has a place in Malad. “But I am not going to reveal where I stay when I am in the city,” laughs the actor. Right now, though, she is putting her feet up and relaxing. 

“Yes, I am slightly more free (compared to boyfriend Dev Patel) and I am enjoying it. Due to my work in the past, I had been travelling a lot. So, I haven’t had a stable place. Now, I finally get to relax while he goes to work everyday,” she laughs.

Ask her how she and Dev stay in touch and she says with a smile “We always find middle ground. Of course, phone is great, but finding something in between is important for whoever is in a relationship, if they really want to make it work.”

On the work front, Freida is excited about Michael Winterbottom’s Trishna. But question her as to why she hasn’t shown interest in Bollywood and she says, “People have still not understood that Trishna is an Indian film. And before any film becomes a Bollywood movie, it’s an Indian film. So, Trishna is, 100 per cent, an Indian film.”

Interestingly, Freida has given an open offer to Anurag Kashyap, co-producer of Trishna. 

“I keep telling Anurag, ‘listen, you know, I am ready (to work with you). Whenever you think you have a role for me, I am geared up. I really like his sensibilities when it comes to filmmaking. Similarly, Vishal Bhardwaj and Dibakar Banerjee too have great sensibilities as filmmakers,” says the actor, who will next be seen in the Antonio Banderas-Mark Strong starrer, Black Gold.

Frieda Pinto to present award at Golden Globes 2012

Actor Frieda Pinto, who rose to international fame with Slumdog Millionaire, will be one of the presenters at the upcoming 69th Golden Globe awards. The 27-year-old Mumbai-born actor will be one among Hollywood beauties like Nicole Kidman and Natalie Portman, who will also be presenting at the gala

event on Sunday, January 15.

"HFPA announces Freida Pinto as a 69th Annual #GoldenGlobesPresenter (sic)," the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced on their Twitter page.

This will be Pinto's second time at the Golden Globes. She walked the red carpet for Slumdog in 2009. Other presenters at the awards gala include Jake Gyllenhaal, Salma Hayek, Melissa McCarthy, Clive Owen, Antonio Banderas and Mark Wahlberg. The ceremony would be hosted by Ricky Gervais.

Only Dev & I understand each other: Freida

Fredia Pinto, who has been dating actor Dev Patel since meeting on the set of 'Slumdog Millionaire', feels that they are the only people who can best understand each other.

"I don't think anybody, nobody on Earth could comprehend what happened during Slumdog Millionaire to me or to him," the Mirror quoted her as saying.

"The only two people who can understand each other are the two of us."

"The small little things just bring so much joy and cheer to us.

"Like the time at the Oscars ceremony - we just looked at each other and said, 'This has been an amazing journey. Thank you for being a great friend through it all'. That's what matters.

"We helped each other, which is very important. I don't think I would be able to do it by myself and I definitely know that he would say the same thing," she added.

Freida Pinto's bowled over by Shah Rukh

Recently on a chat show, India's Hollywood export and Slumdog Millionaire girl Freida Pinto was grilled by hostess on various topics.


The movie made Fredia a name to reckon with in H-Town and also gave her an opportunity to attend many award functions. But that was not the only excitement that gave Freida a chill down her spine. The actor came to her rescue when she had a wardrobe malfunction at the Golden Globe awards gala. Freida recalls, "I was already nervous due to the magnanimity of the event and it only added after I met Shah Rukh. He was not at all nervous but told me he was nervous just to make me happy. I accidentally stepped on my gown and ripped it. I had to hold it in my hand, which was very uncomfortable. But then Shah Rukh held it for me to put me at ease. He isn't known as King Khan for no reason." Well Jai ho!

Freida Pinto under fire for snubbing B'wood

Actress Freida Pinto has come under fire from critics in her native India for allegedly shunning film roles in Bollywood. 

Pinto rose to international fame in 2008's Slumdog Millionaire and she has since appeared in a string of Hollywood and American indie projects such as Woody Allen's 'You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger' and the upcoming films 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' and 'Immortals'.

But critics back home resent the Mumbai-born actress' blossoming film success, insisting that she should be appearing in more Indian movies.

"I haven't done a film in India because I haven't found a script that's completely gotten my attention and made me passionate to get it made," the Daily Express quoted her as telling Interview magazine.

"I keep saying I'm not at all famous in my own country, because people do not think I have done anything for India.

"I was upset initially. I guess everybody in India has tried really hard to do what they do and then move into the West...

"The reason why I'm doing these things outside my country, bit by bit, is to be able to come back to India equipped with the knowledge and understanding of how to hopefully produce my own films one fine day," she added.

Franco's acting surprised Freida Pinto

Actress Freida Pinto was surprised by James Franco's unique acting style but learnt a lot from him when they worked together on Rise of the Planet of the Apes. 

"He's got his own unique and distinctive style of acting. It's not conventional at all. It does take you by surprise initially, but it's all about being flexible and trying to understand how another actor works," reports quoted Freida as saying. 

"I found a lot of things in his acting style that I could pick up and learn from," she added.

Washington: Indian actress Freida Pinto has revealed that she was surprised by actor James Franco’s “unique” acting style.

Pinto, 26, who stars alongside Franco, 33, on ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, said she was at first taken aback by his methods, but later learned a lot from him.

“He’s got his own unique and distinctive style of acting. It’s not conventional at all,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“It does take you by surprise initially, but it’s all about being flexible and trying to understand how another actor works.

I have done no film in India: Freida Pinto

Despite doing interesting films, Freida Pinto and Rushita Singh have still not had their big Bollywood break. Why does Bollywood ignore Indian exports to Hollywood?

International directors have come to India and worked with Indian artistes in their critically acclaimed projects. Some of these actors have even gone on to do quite a few big Hollywood and European movies later on. But why is it that barring a few, Bollywood has largely ignored these actors while casting them in Hindi movies?

Irrfan, of course, remains an exception who has been welcomed with open arms in Bollywood even while his international career is going great guns. But look at Freida Pinto's Bollywood career. The actor has returned to India again after "Slumdog Millionaire" catapulted her to fame in the West. This time around, she has been shooting for Michael Winterbottom's "Trishna" in India. But, Freida, who has already worked with the likes of Woody Allen in "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger" and Julian Schnabel in "Miral", is yet to sign on an Indian movie. In fact, in an interview in The New York Times, Freida has said, "I have done no film in India, so it's very hard for people to accept me as an actor there. They don't really know who I am or they probably don't take me that seriously".

Rushita Singh, who played Tulsi alongside Julia Roberts in " Eat Pray Love" is yet to sign on any new Bollywood film. She says, "Be it for an ad, a film or a stage performance, actors give their best shot. Also Freida and my international debuts were offered to us because we best suited the roles. Similarly, when there will be something that suits us best here, we will surely be seen in a Bollywood movie. Sometimes, dates don't work out. There are a lot of things responsible for doing or not doing a movie." So, does a Hollywood debut still force an actor to start from scratch while Bollywood is concerned? "There are people who get the best start possible. Their debut films are blockbuster hits. But, that's about it all. It's not about Hollywood or Bollywood," Rushita adds.

Priyanka Bose, who acted in Italo Spinelli's "Gangor" and even walked the red carpet at the Rome International Film Festival, did a cameo in "Guzaarish". But the big Bollywood break has still not come her way. "Perhaps, offers haven't come my way since I am supposedly not conventionally pretty for film-makers. I know the audience is also ready to experience actors who don't cater to a certain stereotype. Perhaps, independent film-makers in India will be more keen on casting actors who have made international debuts than hardcore Bollywood directors," she says.

Anand Tiwari, who had Naomi Watts as his co-star in Doug Liman's "Fair Game", says, "Casting for films for Hollywood and Bollywood happens differently. Casting directors in Hollywood have a big role to play in getting particular actors for parts in films. In India, in most cases, the director and producer approach you personally. So, in the end, getting cast in Hollywood or Bollywood is about who you know or what work of yours has been seen by whom." Ask him if his role in "FG" has made any difference to anyone in Bollywood and he says, "It has made no difference to me as an actor to get work in Bollywood. "Udaan" and "Aisha" have generated more work."

Perhaps, Bollywood is a lot more insular a space. Whether an Indian actor courts Ang Lee or Michael Winterbottom, seems like Bollywood will only abide by rules set by itself and for itself.

Freida Pinto bares it all

Slumdog Millionaire actress Frieda Pinto is all set to enact a love making scene which requires her to bare it all! The teaser of the film, Immortals, has already fired up everyone's imagination.

The teaser is quite sensous in nature and promises skinshow on the part of the actress. In fact in one scene, Freida goes backless.

Immortals is a film by Tarsem Singh and also stars henry cavill and Mickey Rourke. It is said to be adapted from the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur and the Titanomachy. Frieda Pinto stars as Phaedra, an oracle priestess who goes on the quest with Theseus. henry Cavill plays Theseus.

Tarsem's directorial debut was with The Cell that starred Jennifer Lopez. He is acclaimed for the 2005 Pepsi commercial that saw the combination of gladiators with the song "We will rock you". Enrique, Britney Spears and Beyonce were part of that popular commercial.

Freida Pinto shoots in Mumbai

Director Anurag Kashyap, in a corner of something called the 'control room', is playing Scrabble on his I-Pad.

It is the last day of shoot on the sets of Trishna, a film he is co-producing with Sunil Bohra and Guneet Monga, both welcoming souls and clearly ecstatic about collaborating with international superstars like director Michael Winterbottom and Freida Pinto, who has beaten Aishwarya Rai hollow in the 'see you at Cannes' game.

The control room is basically a rectangular box atop a set of stairs in Manoranjan Studio at Chakala, Andheri East.

The control room has a large glass window from which you can survey the action on the floor below: a dance troupe is doing a Bollywood dance number in all its garish glory. It is the sort of scene that the West likes to imagine about cinema in Bombay.

It isn't that far from the truth, come to think of it. This has been happening for a week but the producers have managed to keep everything under wraps.

In a corner near the video monitor, Freida Pinto, in a blue blouse and black pants, is observing the action. Your correspondents wait for her turn to come on stage and do the shimmy. But this is not the case.

During a tea break, when the dance troupe and spot boys and assistants get down to the serious business of eating, your correspondents too try to munch on samosas and sandwiches. But we realise that we are being shot too! This is not for the making of the film bit, which film crews do all the time. This is actually a part of the film.

We approach Freida twice in between this break, as an omnipresent camera unit hovers in all directions, like Paul the Octopus. She says, "No, you see even the break is part of the scene. So I can't talk in between breaks. I have to focus on either my work, or the interview. Not both." We understand.

Winterbottom though is easier to convince into talking. "Trishna is basically an adaptation of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbervilles. Riz Ahmed and Freida play the protagonists". Riz Ahmed is a British Muslim rapper. Anurag adds, "He will be performing at a pub called Red Ant later in the evening.

Freida and the rest of the crew will be really chilled out then. Why don't you guys try and get her then?" It's not a bad suggestion, but just then a PR person gives us an in.

We follow Freida into what she insists on calling "the trailer". Closer home, it is called the make-up van. On entering, one of us says, "Congratulations," though why exactly we are congratulating her is not known to any of the parties involved, including Freida. "Oh, thank you so much," says Freida, who looks quite regular.

But then again, this must be method acting Hollywood-style. Anurag tells us, "In the film Freida is a simple girl from Rajasthan who has come to Mumbai. Here she comes to see a shoot with a friend. At this shoot she sees Ganesh Acharya choreographing a song with Uma Qureshi and Vicky." Uma Qureshi is the girl Kashyap is launching in The Gangs of Wasseypur, his next feature.

Vicky is the son of ace action director Sham Kaushal, who worked on Slumdog Millionaire.

The air-conditioned make-up van has an odd décor that alternates between metal walls and cobalt blue cushioning. When the photographer tries to grab a picture she is firm, "Look, the trailer is nowhere in the film, so I don't know if I can allow myself to be photographed in the trailer." The photographer steps out.

Just as we are about to begin, a girl from the crew, opens the door to the trailer and says, "Michael wants you out right now."

"Oh my god, this is so embarrassing. Look can't you give me five minutes?" pleads Freida.

"Michael wants you out right now! He's calling for you!" From behind the crackle of static on her walkie-talkie, Michael Winterbottom begins to reveal the killer inside him. "Where is she! We're beginning to shoot out on the street!"

The interview is over.

On the way to the street outside the studio, the crew girl goes, "It's not about us, ya. With us we'll give you five minutes, ya, No problem. But you know how they function, no?

'Freida Pinto to star in Dhoom 3'

While the grapevine is buzzing with gossip if Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra or Katrina Kaif will land the role opposite Aamir Khan in Aditya Chopra's Dhoom:3, we have heard another gossip, which if it comes true, will certainly see a new sensational pairing.

Industry is abuzz with rumours that Adi is looking to approach Freida Pinto for the film. It will be interesting to see if Freida, who has still not been seduced to do a Bollywood movie by any of our makers, would see her big debut come opposite Aamir. A top source reveals, "There is a possibilty that Freida might debut in Bollywood with Dhoom:3.

What we hear is that Adi is quite keen to approach her for the role. As of now the actresses haven't been finalised and so the casting process is only gaining momentum. It is a known fact the Freida was very much on the radar for the Bond film and since Dhoom too has become a franchise now, they might as well root to have as many headline makers as possible.

Plus, Freida and Aamir will be an interesting fresh pairing. As of now we will only have to wait and watch how this snowballs." Freida could not be contacted for a comment and the spokesperson from Aditya's production house rubbished the news and added that the casting the girls for the film has not yet begun.

Freida replaces Aishwarya as the L’Oreal face

Slumdog Millionaire fame Freida Pinto has replaced Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the brand face of well-known cosmetic brand L’Oreal. According to media reports, the brand has permanently replaced their old brand ambassador, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan with Freida Pinto on looking at her popularity.

Freida Pinto is the third beauty to endorse the product after Aishwarya and Sonam Kapoor. While L’Oreal spokesperson claim that Ash is very much part of the product.  “…Aishwarya Rai Bachchan continues to be our valued spokesperson, as she has since 2000.”

The statement reads further, “She remains an integral part of the L’Oreal Paris world wide Dream Team…She is one of the most iconic women of our times…”

   Well, things will be crystal clear when the new ad will be aired.

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ star Freida Pinto was surprised when nobody recognised her in a Mumbai slum recently.

‘People in the city recognise me as the girl from ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and inevitably they stare. But when I visited the slums with an NGO, nobody recognised me at all. I didn’t mind,’ femalefirst.co.uk quoted Pinto as saying.

The 26-year-old star shot to fame after the Oscar winning movie and since then has featured on cover pages of a lot of fashion magazines and has bagged a few Hollywood projects as well.

Frieda Pinto denies her wedding!

“Slumdog Millionaire” girl Freida Pinto denies her wedding rumors with Dev Patel calling it stupid.Even the media went nuts about this wedding. These kinds of rumors are part and parcel of every celebrity’s life.

In a recent interview Freida clarified “I am seeing Dev but people are never satisfied. One day they write us off as saying we’re not together and the next day we’re together and getting married.

"These rumours are complete rubbish and baseless. There is not even an ounce of truth in it," Divya Tejuja, Freida's spokesperson said.

The two met in 2008 on the sets of Slumdog Millionaire and started dating some time later. But they kept their romance low-profile and didn't appear in public together until late last year.

The 25-year-old actress was first engaged to her former publicist Rohan Antao, but the called it off in 2009, as she wanted to focus on her career.
