Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon loses Grammy
Tandon lost out on the prestigious award to Bela Fleck (Throw Down Your Heart, Africa Sessions Part 2: Unreleased Tracks). The other nominations included Bebel Gilberto (All In One), Angelique Kidjo (OYO) and Sergio Mendes (Bom Tempo) at a glittering ceremony Sunday night.
Her Grammy-nominated album features Sanskrit chants and combines traditional Indian sounds such as sarod, sitar, and esraj with the Western instruments such as the piano, the electric bass and the classical guitar.
While the vocals are given by her, the music has been composed by sarod player Tejendra Narayan Majumdar with assistance from Snehasish Mojumder, the mandolin player.
An Indian Institute of Management (IIM) alumna, Tandon was born and brought up in Chennai and is sister of PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi. She herself worked with McKinsey and Company for 11 years.
Apart from being a singer, Tandon is also the trustee of New York University and American India Foundation. She serves on the Board of Overseers at the NYU Stern School of Business, where she is also Executive-in-Residence.
She lives in New York City with her husband Ranjan, founder and president of an investment firm, and their daughter Lita.
Last year, music maestro A.R. Rahman did the country proud by winning two Grammy gongs for Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Sitar expert Ravi Shankar and tabla great Zakir Hussain are also among the Indians that have brought Grammy home.

Paltrow to perform at Grammy awards
London, Feb 3 – Actress Gwyneth Paltrow will be singing alongside Cee Lo Green and The Muppets at this year’s Grammy Awards.
The actress and the soul singer are teaming up with the puppet characters, which includes Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, for an edited version of Cee Lo’s mega-hit ‘F**k You’.
Paltrow started singing professionally for her role as an alcoholic country singer in ‘Country Strong’, but since the role she made her live debut at the Country Music Awards (CMAs) last November and appeared on TV show ‘Glee’, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
Cee Lo was so impressed that they later collaborated on a studio version of the track, and subsequently performed it on TV comedy show ‘Saturday Night Live’.
The 36-year-old singer admitted he felt his musical partner was ‘really feeling and appreciating what I had done artistically. That was awesome to come from her and feel her energy’.

Grammy’s This Year Will Be Like Never Ever Before
If you had a wish list of performers for this year’s Grammy Awards, then your wish-list is probably already been fulfilled. Lady Antebellum too will be lending her voice on stage, bringing all of the Album of the Year Nominees together! Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Arcade Fire have already been confirmed from the top five album list. Which of these will get the biggest cheers? Guess it remains to be seen!
But for now, the more exciting news is that Will Smith’s son Jaden Smith will rap some songs for the audience standing alongside Usher and Justin Bieber. Doo-Wops and Hooligans star Bruno Mars is slotted to stand in seven nominations at the awards night, so his presence at the stage seems was mandatory and has been confirmed. Lending him voice would be Bobby Ray Simmons Jr (B.o.B) and concept album The ArchAndroid singer-songwriter Janelle Monae.
Still waiting for more names?
Twilight’s Love is Forever band Muse will come on the stage to perform as part of the awards night. In case you didn’t know, their super-hit albums have bought by over 10 million people.
So finally, with all these names, who do you think will win a Grammy sure shot? Or will it be more of shocks that people can expect with the likes of Lady Gaga and Katie Perry present on stage yet again?
