Genelia, Riteish are engaged?

Buzz on the relationship status of actors Genelia D'Souza and Riteish Deshmukh fails to die. Apparently, the two actors got engaged at a secret ceremony held at former Maharashtra chief minister and father of the groom-to-be, Vilasrao Deshmukh's home, a fortnight ago.

Confirms a source, "They have been planning a wedding for a while now, and families of both stars thought that an official engagement would only be appropriate." Interestingly, not a single friend of the couple from the industry was invited to celebrate their special day. Despite finally deciding to make it official, they stuck to a low-key ceremony with just a few family members and close friends, present. "The two have been dating for almost eight years now, but have never spoken about it. They have not just done films together, but have also made countless appearances at parties, award functions and on red carpets," adds the source.

The source adds, apparently, Riteish was very sure from the beginning that he wanted to tie the knot with Genelia. But his family was not too happy with his decision. "They wanted him to get married to a girl from their community and so it took some time for him to convince them otherwise," says the source.

Both Genelia and Riteish were unavailable for comment.

John and I look adorable: Genelia D’Souza

Genelia D’Souza stepped out of her comfort zone for John Abraham, as the duo shot a bedroom sequence along with a honeymoon song for their forthcoming film, Force. The 24-year-old actor said it’s the first time in her eight-year long career that she agreed to such a scene, but only on one condition that it should look aesthetic.

Genelia also hopes to put an end to the never-ending speculations around her personal life and her relationship with actor Ritesh Deshmukh. “I’ve never spoken about my personal life and I plan to keep doing so. Riteish is a good friend. When and if I decide to get married, I will announce it myself.”

Chemistry with JohnI was never sure but John always knew we would rock. He is a tall and tough guy, and I am this petite girl. But later I discovered that’s the beauty of the chemistry. We look different but yet so right. Imran and I look cute, John and Katrina look hot, but John and I look adorable.

Bedroom scene
I had reservations, but after talking to my director Nishikanth Kamath, I agreed because the scene has no lust, no focussing on body parts, no unnecessary taking off clothes, there is just innocent love. Even my family did not have any apprehensions watching the scene or the honeymoon song.
Married to JohnRumours of my link ups with co-stars was common, but this time the pandit who shot with us for the wedding scene just got me married to John. He claimed that he chanted all the mantras, as he would have for a real wedding. Either he’s lost it or someone is trying to malign my image.

Shadowed by JohnForce is John’s film and I was very clear about it since the beginning. I am not insecure about the length of my role as far as I am confident that without me there is no story. I am the common thread that is very much evident in the promos and an important part of the film too.

Fell on John
Due to cable failure, Genelia fell on John, giving him a hairline fracture in his left hand. “It is really sad as he is still struggling and it is not fully healed. The film is not make belief action and as it’s real action, John got hurt in many a scenes. Fortunately, I had the easier portions to play.”

Veena Malik's an item girl!

Veena Malik is all set for her Bollywood debut with Riteish Deshmukh-Genelia D'Souza starrer, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya directed by Mandeep Kumar.

She has done an item song - her first - in the film. She says, "I had many offers but I wanted to pick the best one. This song is spicy and goes perfectly with my personality, at least I feel that. I hope its the right decision. Enjoyed doing it is an understatement."

She adds that there's no concept of item numbers in Pakistan, "There are hardly any films being made in Pakistan at the moment. Hope that changes soon." Veena doesn't feel that the people in Pakistan will react negatively to her item song. "They love me. I'm their favourite child."

Genelia D’souza gets sporty

There have been talks about actors Genelia D’souza and Riteish Deshmukh being quite a couple on the sets of their upcoming film, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya. While the duo have apparently been spending a lot of time together in Manali as they shoot for the film, they have also been meeting off the sets.

If sources are to be believed, then the duo often head out after the shoot is wrapped up for the day. Sometimes they go out for lunch, sometimes dinner or sometimes just for a coffee.
However, Genelia also has a new activity that has gotten her hooked these days. The actor who’s always been the sporty type, has been a state level athlete and national level football player in her school and college days.

She had earlier said, “Despite being actively into sports, I did not pursue it as a profession. I did not choose any career, it chose me.” However the actor has taken to a different sport in Manali.

Genelia has been often spotted playing badminton in between shots in her free time. While people have always known that she has been a football player, no one knew about her fetish for badminton.
A source from the sets said, “On being asked about her playing badminton often Genelia informed that her dad was a state level badminton champion. While she is fond of the game and used to play it when she was younger, she doesn’t find the time anymore because of her hectic schedule.”

While Genelia has been honing her baddie skills, joining her at times on the sets is rumoured beau, Riteish as well. The source adds, “Riteish often joins Genelia while she is playing. She loves to unwind by playing and Riteish understands that and the duo play games in between shots. In fact Genelia has got Riteish hooked to the sport as well. She was even spotted giving him tips to work on being better at the sport. “

Genelia, Rana are "just good friends"

Southern hottie Rana Daggubati and Genelia D'Souza, who are shooting for their movie Naa Ishtam, seem to have developed a soft spot for each other.

There's buzz on the sets that the duo has grown quite close and can now officially use that oft-quoted line of  being "just good friends."

This is the second time that the Rana has been linked to a B-Town actress. Previously, Rana was reportedly close to Bipasha Basu while they were shooting for Dum Maro Dum in Goa. Genelia on the other hand has an immaculate image and has been with Riteish Deshmukh ever since their first film together, Tujhe Meri Kasam, in 2003.

"Even as Genelia's marriage plans with Riteish are being firmed up for next year, Southern industry insiders just can't stop talking about the growing 'friendship' between D'Souza and Daggubatti," says a tabloid.

With Genelia's image in perspective, this could very well be the tried and tested publicity stunt that film makers spin to promo their films. Yawn.. get original people!

Ritesh and Genelia's hide and seek romance

While each award ceremony has some hustle-bustle to talk about, this year's IIFA has consistently unfolded the darkest of secrets and most glamorous hook-ups of Bollywood. While news was also buzzing about witty Ritesh Deshmukh and charming Genelia D'souza hooking up to get married, here some glimpse of the PDA that one and all witnessed in Toronto!

Always kept under covers, this time the relationship between the two actors have managed to attract much attention from across the Bollywood fraternity with their absence from the parties, events and the much talked about SRK's bash post awards!

Not only this, even while being awarded for his wit at IIFA, the handsome actor quickly displayed his love for beautiful girlfriend as he said, "I love you" and winked at her right from the stage. Bull's Eye! Well, all this hiding and running away for what Jenny and Ritesh?

No Bachchan for Genelia

His reputation for over crowding his films with A-listers and undertaking exclusively male centric projects has paid off for the most part for director Rohit Shetty. But, with the latest turn of events he might have to reconsider this formula that has usually won him critical acclaim.

Reportedly, the leading lady in his upcoming production Bol Bachchan, Genelia D’Souza, felt inconsequential in the Abhishek Bachchan and Ajay Devgn starrer and so, opted out of the film.

Apparently, Shetty was rather taken-aback by the actress’s decision and tried very hard to convince her to stay on-board.

However, Genelia, who was to essay Bindiya Goswami’s character in the original, was adamant about not going forward with the project. A source explained that while Shetty has had to return to the drawing board to cast another actress, his losses are minimal as the film has not yet gone on floors.

The source explained, “If shooting was in process, Shetty would have to re-shoot with Genelia’s replacement, which in turn would have increased the cost of the film.

At least now, producers Ashtavinayak will not have to bear a hole in their pocket. It was a good call for Genelia to opt out before the film went on floors.”

When asked why the actress opted out, the source said, “When she read the script, Genelia felt that she didn’t have a very significant role in the film. But that is with most of Shetty’s films - either they are too crowded or they are male-centric.”

However, a friend of the actress came to her defence and denied these claims. “Her dates are clashing with Navdeep Singh’s film, starring Abhay Deol. She had to chose one between the two,” said the actress’s friend.

With Genelia giving up her role in the film, the industry is already abuzz with speculation about her possible replacement. And it seems that Prachi Desai is the most likely contender.

“Shetty spoke to Prachi, who instantly agreed to step into Genelia’s shoes,” added the source. When contacted, both Genelia and Prachi remained unavailable for comment.

'Buy my silence about John-Genelia wedding'

`Buy my silence about John-Genelia wedding`
The panditji is blackmailing Vipul Shah to keep mum about John-Genelia 'wedding'

There was much hullabaloo about how John Abraham and Genelia D'Souza's marriage scene in Force apparently turned out to be a 'real' wedding.

However, what is transpiring now is something neither the actors nor their director-producer Vipul Shah might have expected even in their wildest dreams.

According to sources, the pandit has been blackmailing Shah. Also, the director is now looking for an amicable settlement by paying him off. If he still creates issues, Shah says that he will resort to legal means.

Says a source close to the director-producer, "The pandit wanted monetary compensation to not raise an alarm over the supposed sampurn shaadi (complete marriage) when it had been shot.

At that time Vipul had brushed off the pandit's demands. Now when he read about Genelia's purported wedding with Riteish Deshmukh he is looking at a hefty pay-off to not bring up the legal validity and moral sanctity of the filmed wedding."

What happened...

According to Vipul, while he suggested a filmy wedding with an actor playing the priest, it was director Nishikant Kamat who wanted the rituals to look bona fide.

Says the harried director, "This is the price we pay for my director's penchant for realism. It was he who suggested that we get a real priest. How were we to know that the priest would suddenly claim he had performed a real wedding?"

Vipul also fears that this would be a good playground for Hindu organisations, who might also jump into the fray.

Says Vipul, "But I'd like to remind the potential trouble-makers that Genelia is not a Hindu, and therefore the Hindu wedding rituals are not applicable to her."

A publicity stunt

While the industry is claiming that this whole tamasha is actually a promotional technique, the producer claims that it is true but only for the pandit.

"He is in the news. More people would now approach him to perform marriages. I'm happy he is famous at the cost of my film. But I am not taking this lying down."

"Are people really saying I'm doing this for publicity? If I wanted to carry this absurd matter forward I'd have got some Hindu organisation to jump in myself.

There were at least a dozen news channels wanting to do special programme on the so-called marriage. I declined."

Riteish, Genelia to have two weddings

Actors Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza are officially a couple now...

Well, they haven't announced anything yet, but their action spoke louder than words as the two walked hand-in-hand at a recent awards function, even in the presence of Mom D'Souza, who only looked too happy with the couple's close camaraderie.

Riteish and Genelia have been 'good friends' for a long time now. If sources are to be believed the two would've settled down together a long time ago had Riteish's family agreed to the wedding of their son to a Catholic girl. Apparently, the Deshmukh family wanted Riteish to settle down with a girl from their community.

However, it looks like after all these years the family has given in, or so we are told by friends of the actor's. And if a wedding does happen in 2012, there are going to be two shaadis - one will be a Maharashtrian wedding, while the other will be a Church wedding for Riteish and Genelia!

At airports, egos crash-land

No wonder most stars look grumpy when they get off an airplane. It must be the thought of having to go through the customs, of course.

Apparently, airports aren't the best of places for these frequent-fliers, who are left with no option but to leave their starry tantrums at home. The officials would have none of their 'Don't you know who I am', you see. Here's what the stars rant on their respective web pages, about travelling by air...

Abhishek Bachchan:
"Ok, just figured why they give such a heavy breakfast on the morning flights to Delhi...... They know you'll burn it all off when the Delhi airport makes you walk, what seems like, half the distance to your destination!!! Somebody get me a wheelchair! PLEASE."

Priyanka Chopra:
l "Its too Early to be catching a flight. On my way back to Mumbai from kolkata."
"..transit flight....too long.."

Rahul Bose:
"Unbelievable bungling by kingfisher – my seat's occupied by someone eating a full meal! Am told to please sit elsewhere till he finishes!!"
"Add another airport that allows you to walk to the plane – Dehradun."
"This is getting ridiculous. Seen the same airhostess three times this week. haven't met my sister & niece once in the same span."
"Airline bus has run out of gas. Passengers on tractors. Meals harvested fresh as we travel"
"Airport bus has been driving for 25 min. When I asked the airline attendant where we were going she sweetly replied 'chennai'."
"Our airplane is reversing and an engineer is thumping from the back to guide the pilot like the BEST buses"

Genelia D'souza:
"Air travel hs bcum so unfair, der is a 45min prior deadline4a passenger2check in n if evn a sec later d passenger doesnt get 2board d flite.."
"Hwevr 1ce all d passengers hav boarded, d flite is invariably delayed n d passenger hs no voice if d airline causes delays.. Y??"
"A passenger who hs a confirmed ticket n is way b4 d 45min deadline still doesn't hav d security of gettin on 2d flite, cos d airline is allowed 2overbook d flite as a policy, den wat does d term confirmation mean??"
Rohan Bopanna:
l"Just landed in Paris. Waiting for my bags and hopefully they have made it as well."

John-Genelia almost married

John Abraham and Genelia D'souza will be seen together for the first time in Vipul Shah's Force. They almost got married to each other on the sets of this film as well.

The actors were in a wedding sequence and were stopped from completing the saat pheras at the last minute.

Sources say the ceremony conducted was so authentic that had they completed the last round they would have actually been man and wife!

A source said, "We were shooting in Malshej Ghat and there was this old temple where we had got a local maharaj for the wedding sequence.

Unfortunately the pandit has never witnessed a wedding and did not understand the concept of 'cut' and 'action' while shooting. It was a multi-camera set-up and so we needed to have minimum shots.

However whenever Nishikant Kamath would say cut, the pandit would not stop. Finally after the sixth phera someone from the unit realized that the mantras were real and if not stopped John and Genelia would be actually married. So, they were stopped before the final round."

When contacted Vipul Shah said, "Actually it was a funny thing. The local pandit could not understand the dynamics of the shoot and insisted on completing the pheras.

After the sixth phera, everyone burst out laughing as they realized that they would actually be married. John and Genelia then realized this too and burst out laughing.

However the maharaj kept insisting that they complete the pheras and it was difficult to explain to him that we cannot do this.

We also did not want to hurt his sentiments and did not want to be disrespectful towards him. The good part was that the scene came out beautifully as John and Genelia were laughing and smiling, all thanks to the pandit."

Ad-vantage B-Town bombshells

Nothing sells like cricket in the Indian subcontinent as it's a heady combo of action, glam and entertainment. The action is big on the small screen.

The ad revenues are mind-blowing and has shown a consistent rise in the last few years. This year, immediately after the World Cup (WC), the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be back. Sample this: while cricket is expected to earn an ad revenue of Rs 1,800 crore from its television telecast this year (up from Rs 1,500 crore in 2010, as it showcases the World Cup and the Indian Premier League in back-to-back events). How big cricket ad revenue is can be gauged from the fact that the ad revenue of 2011 is expected to touch Rs 700-800 crore as compared to the Rs 300 crore of the inaugural edition of IPL.

Cashing in on the cricket fever are Bollywood hotties. In the midst of chasing targets, flying sixes, you can see B-Town beauties endorsing brands. According to various industry sources, the ladies leading the race are Kareena Kapoor (approximately Rs 2.5-3 crore per endorsement), Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif (about Rs 2-2.5 crore per endorsement), Deepika Padukone (about Rs 1.5-2 crore per endorsement) and Genelia (about Rs 1.5 crore per endorsement).

Evergreen celeb fact: When it comes to endorsements nothing sells more than a celeb peddling the fare. Even media analysts agree on this. According to a recent study, the top recalled ads during the Annual Academy Awards 2011 had four ads endorsed by celebrities. Cut to WC 2011 where the target consumer gets to see more of Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Genelia et al.

According to ad whiz Santosh Desai, "Celebrities ensure attention. Certain amount of visibility and attention will benefit any brand. During a WC match telecast, the same people who watch the matches watch ads too. So, there is a correspondence between the two."

Rajneesh Krishna, senior professor of a leading communications management institute feels, "The presence of a Bollywood actor breaks the clutter and if the personality of the actor is in consonance with the brand, then it clicks."

'Brand fit' is the name of the game. Chandan Nath, president of a leading ad agency feels "Priyanka could be the next big thing among celeb endorsers", while ad man Prathap Suthan hedges his bets on Deepika, who he says is the right mix of the "modern and traditional, sporty and the demure." Brand consultant Anand Halve, says, "Until last year, it was a tie between Priyanka and Kareena. But today Katrina is seen as someone who with a lot of potential as she retains a sense of authenticity in the ads."

As the battle of the B-Town bombshells gets spicier by the day, the BO success rate too will significantly tilt the scales in their favour, in the coming months. Until then, the headturners will continue to grab eyeballs and rake in the big bucks.

Harman, Genelia's '7 days in Paris'?

After 'It's My Life' - a film that is yet to release, Harman Baweja and Genelia D'Souza will come together yet again for Sanjay Gadhvi's '7 Days in Paris'.

It can be recalled that earlier Gadhvi (of 'Dhoom' fame) had signed Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif for the same film. But Imran demanded changes in the script much to the chagrin of Katrina whose role was reduced to nearly nothing. Anyway, both actors opted out of the movie, and Gadhvi was then keen to cast Neil Nitin Mukesh in the lead. Things didn't work out even then and the film ultimately got shelved.

Sanjay has re-surrected the movie from the backburner, and approached Harman Baweja and Genelia D'Souzato play the lead roles in this romantic caper. If all works out well, '& Days in Paris' will roll by this year end.
