The occasion was the launch of a non-fiction book 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai', based on women gangsters of the Mumbai underworld, by noted crime journalist Hussain Zaidi at a bookstore in Mumbai.
From Kamathipura to Dongri, from assassins to molls, the book is a collection that tells the stories of women who have become legends in Mumbai's streets, lanes and back-alleys. Absorbingly told, impeccably researched, Mafia Queens of Mumbai reveals a side of Mumbai's underworld that has never been seen before.
Actress Rani Mukherjee and filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj were the special guests who unveiled the book for the renowned author whose previous work includes the much acclaimed 'Black Friday: The True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts' which was later made into a film by Anurag Kashyap.
Guess Rani's recent portrayal of a crime journalist in 'No one killed Jessica' made her an apt choice to launch the book. Draped in a beautiful saffron sari, the actress told TOI, "I would love to play a mafia queen in a gangster film which will hopefully be an adaptation of this book. I've never played such a character and this seems to be the perfect opportunity."
We are told Rani's co-star Vidya Balan too was apparently invited but the actress couldn't make it owing to her busy shooting schedule.
