Will Kristen Stewart’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” be a trilogy?

According to producer Joe Roth, his “Snow White and The Huntsman” film is being positioned as a trilogy, a fact that has emerged rather late after months of speculative buzz. Scrutiny relating to the film has stemmed from the timing of its release, which will coincide with the release of a competing Snow White-themed film. While Roth’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” will star Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron, the competing “The Brothers Grimm: Snow White” will star Lily Collins and Julia Roberts.

Said Roth to Entertainment Weekly in an exclusive interview, “This story will end, but there will be questions remaining for these three characters.” It is a surprising detail, given that a very in-demand Kristen Stewart just finished filming another lengthy fantasy series (a total of five “Twilight Saga” films); even when her role in the first film was announced, some worried that sticking with roles along these lines could only typecast the young actress as a hapless ingénue.

Yet, in his interview with EW, Roth insisted that his Snow White character will be different: “She starts out not a damsel in distress, but innocent, and after 11 years of imprisonment by the Evil Queen, she escapes and learns the ways of a warrior in the woods.”
