Victoria Beckham designs one-off crocodile handbag for Selfridges... with an eye-watering price tag of £8,995

Victoria Beckham has designed the ultimate one-off gift to be snapped up for Christmas - a unique crocodile skin handbag.

However, the white bag will be off the scale for most budgets, with a price tag of £8,995.
And the luxury item is certain to upset animal rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), which has criticised Victoria for her use of exotic skins on her designs.

The bag was among the items unveiled by upmarket store Selfridges today - and are thought to be the hottest for this Christmas.

Each one will be made to order and can be hand-stamped with the owner's name or a personal message.

Victoria, who became a mother for the fourth time earlier this month when daughter Harper Seven was born, is well-placed to design the luxury handbag, thanks to experience gained from her own extensive collection of bags.
The singer-turned-designer has over 100 Hermes handbags, a haul that is said to be worth over £1.5million.

Ms Beckham was recently approached by PETA to reconsider using reptile skin in her handbag collections.

A spokesman for the organisation, David W. Perle, said: 'We appreciate Ms. Beckham's rejection of fur and have approached her - 100 per cent respectfully - over the suffering of lizards and other reptiles who are often skinned alive for fashion.'

But the debate seemed not to faze Selfridges, which was keen to show off the items at its Oxford Street store in London, many of which have a white theme.

In addition to the stellar gifts, the store is selling the ultimate advent calendar for the super-rich in the run-up to Christmas, costing a colossal £18,000.

It consists of a piece of furniture containing a miniature designer accessory for each day including shoes by Christian Louboutin.

Selfridges' White Christmas 2011 will launch in the retailer's stores in Birmingham, Manchester and London, and on Selfridges.com, from next month.

And if Victoria herself fancies picking up a gift or two, it's worth nothing that there are also cashmere babygrows by Baby Dior costing £550.

Selfridges' managing director Anne Pitcher said: 'Our buyers have worked hard throughout the year to ensure this year's Christmas collection is packed full of products to inspire and surprise our customers who travel from around the world to visit our store at this special time of year.'
