A.R. Rahman, Karsh Kale Coming to Hollywood Bowl

Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer A.R. Rahman will headline an evening concert July 10 at the fabled Hollywood Bowl. Rahman will perform along with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Matt Dunkley.

The show, titled “Journey to India,” is sponsored in part by KCRW-FM and will be hosted by KCRW personality Tom Schnabel.

Also on the bill are leading Bollywood playback singer Shreya Ghoshal; innovative percussionist-composer Karsh Kale; the Sher Foundation; and returnees Bollywood Step Dance and Rhythms of Rajasthan (both of whom performed with Rahman when he made his Bowl debut in 2006). The concert benefits the LA Phil Musicians Pension Fund, according to an announcement from the Hollywood Bowl.

Rahman was in the news recently when he revealed that he had formed a supergroup along with Mick Jagger, vocalist Joss Stone, Grammy-winning reggae artist Damian Marley, and Eurythmics founder Andy Stewart. He is also collaborating with American pop singer Michael Bolton on a song, according to reports.

Rahman is also attached to the Indian film projects “Rana” (starring Rajnikanth), “Paani” (from Shekhar Kapur) and Imtiaz Ali’s “Rockstar.”
