Dia Mirza's a green girl

Dia Mirza has been felicitated for her efforts this year at an awards show and is also on the board of directors of an MNC to look into environmental concerns as part of social initiatives.

Love for the environment is something that’s part of her upbringing. CS spoke to Dia about her concerns and efforts:
Who: Dia Mirza
What: Her love for the environment
Where: At a studio in Goregaon

An early bird
I think my awareness about the environment stems from my upbringing. My dad who was an industrial fair designer once got an assignment to redesign a factory. When my dad went to see the site he saw that the factory was dumping its waste in the nearby river. Seeing that, he simply refused to take on the project. My school was also instrumental in raising awareness about global warming. Way back in 1987-88, we were taught about not using plastic bags and so on.

Women power
Travelling across the country for environmental issues has been an eye-opener. All those who crib about the present state of affairs in India should see some of the amazing work happening at grassroot levels. I remember going to Rajasthan where a young girl managed the water supply level. The whole village looked upto her, and respected her efforts immensely. What’s doubly great is that women are drivers of change in rural India.

Toilet humour

I remember once going to a place called Narwara in Rajasthan. A group had built a check-in dam in the village as a part of social initiative, and we had gone for a village meeting to enquire about its functioning and maintenance. Surprisingly, when I spoke to the women about the idea of building a toilet in their homes, they were against it. They told me that going to the riverside every morning to answer nature’s call was a better idea as it was the time when all the women got together for some socialising. These women were not allowed to step outside their homes by the men folk and that was the only time when they got to go out and meet each other. I couldn’t control my laughter when I heard this.

Wild instincts

Nature inspires me in every way. When I see the rains from my living room window, I feel motivated to paint or listen to some good music. The best part is the sense of oneness. No one ever feels out of place in a natural setting. I love outdoors, be it the forests or mountains. There is so much natural beauty in the country.

I got a good girlfriend in Farah Khan: Boman Irani

Vadodara: Actor Boman Irani is busy promoting his latest movie Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi (SFKTNP), which is slated to release this Friday, August 24. Addressing a promotional event on Tuesday in Vadodara, the Bollywood actor said he has found a good girlfriend in his on-screen flame Farah Khan.
The cast of Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi was at Limda village in the city. Talking to PTI, Boman Irani said, "I got a good girlfriend in Farah Khan....Mane aa chhokari bahuj game chhe...(I like this girl very much)." The actor added, "I enjoy playing the role of a hero..You see I have become an actor after working as a salesman selling underwear!"

Boman Irani and Farah Khan visited the institute as part of the film promotion. With his typical Parsi accent, Boman evoked peels of laughter from the students of a college at Limda village. They were presented with a miniature spinning wheel as the memento on the occasion. Talking about it, Farah said, "I would use it for making a towel for Boman as he has to cover himself with it during a scene in the movie."

Boman is playing a love-stuck Parsi salesman in the movie SFKTNP. "Until now, I have played roles like father of leading actresses including Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone among others. Now for the first time, I am playing a lead against a heroine, which gives me a special joy," he said.

Talking about her role, Farah Khan said that she had to shed the flab to fit into the character. "Destiny played a major role in turning me into a heroine with 'Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi'. I am happy to lose weight for the role. This is a clean and nice movie typical that of Sanjay Leela Bhansali," she added.

However, SFKTNP is a romantic comedy, which has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali's sister Bela Sehgal. The film is a love story between a middle-aged couple and the makers say that it will appeal to the youth and they are hopeful of good response from them.

Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra are my seniors: Katrina Kaif

Mumbai: Katrina Kaif today is no longer just a pretty face. She has proved her acting calibre in Rajneeti and now, Ek Tha Tiger. With ETT crossing the 100 crore mark at the Box Office, Kat is now one of the most bankable stars in the industry. But, when compared with her contemporaries like Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, Katrina feels that they are way too ahead of her.

Katrina Kaif has so far acted in male oriented movies, where the heroine's role comes second after the male lead. But, her contemporaries like Kareena, Priyanka and Vidya Balan, have already made a stable position in the industry by choosing women oriented scripts. Talking to a leading website about the same, Katrina said, "Kareena and Priyanka are senior to me. They are way ahead of me."

She further said that if a script excites her, she agrees to the deal. Talking about the 100 crore craze in the recent times, Katrina said, " I am happy to see the business of cinema flourishing, films minting money. Yes, hits are important but somewhere your work has to be liked also."

Imtiaz Ali helps Preity take Paris to Prague

Who says filmmakers work in isolation and don't have the inclination to help their colleagues? Producer Preity Zinta has now got a big hand of support from Imtiaz Ali when her film needed additional location to complete her shooting. Thanks to Imtiaz's timely intervention, Zinta's crew leaves on Tuesday night for Prague to complete the shooting.

Preity Zinta's love story Ishkq In Paris needs some shooting outside Paris. We learn that the film is complete and has even been screened for selected preview audiences. But a portion of the climax remains incomplete. And the film's makers would need to recreate Paris in Prague since shooting in Paris is impossible.

This is where Imtiaz Ali, who shot his last film Rockstar extensively in Prague, came to Preity and her director Prem Raj's rescue. Says a source close to the project, "Imtiaz and his team know every bit of Prague. They helped Prem Raj find the exact location that would match with the unfinished shooting of the climax in Paris. The location that Imtiaz's team found for Preity is so similar that there would be not a moment of loss in continuity from Paris to Prague."

Director Prem Raj who was in a tearing hurry to wind up loose ends in Mumbai before heading for Prague on Tuesday said, "Yes, there is a portion of the climax that we couldn't shoot in Paris because we couldn't get the required permission. We tried hard, but in vain. So the film is complete except for one portion. We knew the topography in Prague was similar to France. And since Imtiaz Ali had shot Rockstar in Prague we got Imtiaz's team to help us find exactly the location we needed. I think we can shoot in Prague now without anyone guess where Paris ends and Prague begins."

Did Sonakshi Sinha and Juhi Chawla have a tiff over a make-up van?

Bollywood these days are abuzz with stories about how actors and actresses are looking beyond their professional rivalries to forge long-lasting relationships. However, sometimes few stray cases of tu tu-main main crop up on the sets.
Something similar to this happened between Sonakshi Sinha and Juhi Chawla too, while they were shooting on the sets of Ashwani Dheer's upcoming Diwali release Son Of Sardar.

According to a source from the unit: "It is an age-old saying that two actresses on the same set cannot get along together and that's what happened in the initial Punjab schedule of the film. The point of contention between the two actresses apparently stemmed from the lack of enough vanity vans on the sets."

The source elaborated: "The unit was shooting in a small town, which is a few hours away from Patiala. Since the number of vanity vans were not enough for the actors on the sets, the production requested people to share their vans with each other."

Juhi and Sonakshi apparently had to share one van and even had to sleep in it. However, soon the tension between the two eased and the actresses got along fine from then onwards.

A source from the production confirmed the news and said: "Yes, the actresses were unhappy and wanted their own personal vans. But since they had no option, they finally agreed to share vans. Eventually, they got along very well."

Dhoom 3: Katrina Kaif chooses Shah Rukh Khan over Aamir Khan

Bollywood Actor Katrina Kaif is torn between the starry demands of Bollywood's two superstars. While Aamir Khan is waiting for Katrina in Chicago to practice his stunts for Dhoom 3 with her, Shah Rukh Khan, who is shooting Yash Chopra's untitled project in Ladakh, wants Katrina with him to shoot some 'complex scenes'.

Katrina, we hear, was supposed to shoot for two weeks with Shah Rukh in Ladakh and then head to Chicago to join Aamir Khan for two weeks. Being the absolute perfectionist when it comes to his craft, Aamir wanted the gorgeous actor with him in the American city to perfect their stunts and to be in sync with each other. Unfortunately, on SRK's insistence, Katrina now needs to stay in Ladakh for few more days.

Apparently, Shah Rukh has some solo scenes to shoot and Katrina's presence is not required, yet SRK feels he will be able to focus better for the complicated scenes if Katrina is by his side.

It is certainly Aamir Khan's loss. According to the original plan, we are told, Aamir wanted to practice some important sequences with Katrina. This would have given the two actors enough time and scope to warm up to each and behaving naturally onscreen.

But now when Katrina heads to Chicago, she might have to face the camera straightaway, without rehearsals.

Now this episode might spur yet another controversy about the battle between the two Khans, and in all probability one can easily blame SRK for holding Kat back in Ladakh. But we think Aamir is equally responsible for not having enough time to rehearse his scenes with Katrina. Remember, it was he who postponed the shoot of Dhoom 3 due to his other commitments.

But we are sure that the Perfectionist Khan will make up for the loss by giving his best and by drawing a superlative performance out of Kat when she joins him. Right, Aamir?
