Bollywood focusing on youth!

The world of moving pixels is brimming with stories that the young relate to.

And that the entertainment world is trying to woo its young consumers is a universally accepted fact. But what makes 'young' a hot topic with many takers — be it B-Town movies or reality shows is a billion dollar question.
On celluloid, the young and hip characters ooze an effervescence that is fresh. Yet at the same time, they send out a message that they are irreverent and unapologetic about living life on their own terms, sometimes testing the moral fibre of society and feel it is cool to do so.

Keeping the young Indians in mind as the target audience, Bollywood filmmakers are churning out 35 mm stories about the young in their coolest avatars, speaking the bindaas bol, liberally dotted with cuss words and doing things that they think is cool. In films like F.A.L.T.U., Luv Ka The End, Pyar ka Punchnama, Shaitan and Delhi Belly et al the protagonists flaunt the devil may care attitude, reflecting what the young are up to these days.

What is universal is the assumption that if you are young you can get away with anything unparliamentarian — from flouting laws, using abusive language or treating sex as a rush of hormones — because life's all about listening to your instincts and following your hearts.

So is Bollywood's portrayal, for that matter how the young come across as in reality shows, a reflection of what the young actually are today? Actor Aaskha Goradia says the youth in Hindi films are "shown exactly the way they are in real life. It is up to the young audience to use their own discretion and move ahead in life without emulating them." Filmmaker Onir feels, "Suddenly it has become cool to use abuses. And since the young are seen using them quite a bit, filmmakers add these abuses in songs and dialogues to attract their target audience."

However, VJ Cyrus Sahukar feels the young are not as irreverent as they are portrayed in films. "The young are irreverent when they want to be at the same time they can be responsible when the situation demands. The young are also focused and very, very ambitious too. It would not be justified to simply label them as irreverent. In movies and TV shows only certain aspects are shown to make the storyline interesting. As far as abusive language is concerned, the young have always used abusive language. Our parents might have used those words too, when they were young. The only difference is that some expletives are now part of informal conversations."

Echoing the same sentiment, reality star Pravesh Rana says, "The young today believe in the concept of survival of the fittest which makes them flaunt what they think they possess. They want to be owners of their own life. They also know what they can do and what they can't."

There is another way to look at it, feels Aashka. "Hindi films are made only to entertain and should be treated as such."

For our desi dream merchants however, if irreverent young flicks can translate into big bucks then that's the trend that might rule the industry in the months to come!

Ali Zafar inspired by Mirza Galib

Ali Zafar takes on a Mirza Galib poem in his latest video "'Jee Dhoondta Hai'

Talent house Ali Zafar is soon to release the video of ''Jee Dhoondta Hai" a song featuring Mirza Ghalib's poetry from his latest hit album Jhoom.

The acclaimed poet's piece believed to be written for a courtesan will feature Ali Zafar in the video directed by Abdullah Haris. The six-and-a-half minute long video was shot in two days. "It shows the self-discovery of a man, his love and then his struggle, only to be involved in a spiritual journey, in the end," says Haris
Sharing more details of the project, Zafar informs, "'Jee Dhoondta Hai' was the last song I added in Jhoom. I recorded it three years ago. Before finishing the album, I felt that a song like this was missing. I had already sung a poem from Mirza Ghalib in the album Koi Umeed Bar Nahin Aatee and I after that I felt that who could get enough of the great maestro? So I added 'Jee Dhoondta Hai' in the last few days before finalising the record."

As per a recent market survey Ali Zafar 's third album titled "Jhoom" released by Alif records, Ali's own record label is the highest selling album in Pakistan and if that wasn't all Jhoom also ranked second in popularity on Indian charts.

Shah Rukh Khan praises Kareena Kapoor

Actress Kareena Kapoor is on cloud nine these days. Well recently co-star Shah Rukh Khan praised her for professionalism and dedication.

Very impressed with her level of commitment towards the film Ra.One, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan recently praised Kareena on a popular micro blogging site.
SRK tweeted "Finished the last few bits of Ra.One with Kareena. Want to thank her for working so hard and fast she was such a sport"

Kareena Kapoor who is Bollywood's most sought after actress is juggling between 3 major projects Bodyguard with Salman Khan, Reema Kagti's film with Aamir Khan and Ra.One with Shah Rukh Khan .In spite of working on a tight schedule the star fulfilled her professional commitments and shot for the last bits of Ra.One in Hyderabad

A source informs, "Kareena didn't want to inconvenience anyone. She is a thorough professional and didn't mind working overtime to shoot for the last bits of the film as and when required. A compliment coming from someone as committed as Shah Rukh Khan has really thrilled and humbled Kareena."

Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra re-ignite 2 States

In December 2010, Mumbai Mirror reported how Priyanka Chopra after being confirmed for the lead role in Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's 2 States was suddenly dropped, thanks to the lead actor Shah Rukh Khan and his belief that the script demanded a fresh face. Seems like, the King Khan has now had a change of heart.

He not only insisted on having Priyanka on board again, but also convinced the actress to take up the offer.

Reports of the actress falling out of favour with Vishal Bhardwaj after 7 Khoon Maaf also added to the decision of her getting dropped from the director's next project.

The fact that she was a Punjabi and the character was that of a South Indian girl, also worked against the actress. However, looks like King Khan's recommendation has overcome all odds. A source informs, "Priyanka is Punjabi.

But both Vishal and Shah Rukh are convinced she can pull off the Tamilian role. They feel she possesses the versatility. And she will practise her accent. Earlier they felt only a South Indian actress could do justice to the role. But now even producer Sajid Nadiadwala is convinced that Priyanka can pull it off."

The film 2 States is now scheduled to go on floors in late 2012. Priyanka had openly declared that Shah Rukh is her favourite actor, ever since. However, this is the first time SRK has endorsed or rather insisted on casting a particular heroine in a film.

Looks like the actress has definitely impressed SRK with her versatility and acting prowess in the recent past. After all, they are working together in Farhan Akhtar's Don 2.

As for Bhardwaj, he had earlier said that Priyanka was his favourite actress. And after leaving her out of Kaminey sequel, maybe even the director did not want to lose this opportunity to work with her once again.

2 States was earlier supposed to be directed by Siddharth Anand, however it went to Vishal Bharadwaj after Siddharth had a fallout with the producer Sajid Nadiadwala.

Sonam Kapoor follows Sonakshi Sinha to Kollywood

Sonam Kapoor
Kollywood seems to have become a hot new destination for our Bollywood actress.

Dabanng girl Sonakshi Sinha is gearing up to debut in Tamil film Vishwaroopam opposite Kamal Haasan and now Sonam Kapoor has been approached for a Tamil film opposite Vijay.

According to an industry insider, the untitled film will be directed by Ghajini fame AR Murugadoss. As far as Vijay is concerned, the actor is busy shooting the Tamil remake of 3 Idiots, Nanban with Shankar.

Apparently Murugadoss, who has recently completed his 7am Arivu with Suriya and Shruti Haasan, wants to get on with his next. He already has Vijay's consent for the film while Sonam is yet to confirm. It is also believed that it is a big budget project backed by Fox Star Studios.

People are jealous of me & Saif: Kareena Kapoor

Saif Ali Khan's girl and Salman Khan's original 'desi girl', Kareena Kapoor might appear to have it all going for her, but the actress's life has been far from a bed of roses.

Of late she has had to deal with troubling rumours about her four-year long relationship coming to an end. Upset with the 'baseless' stories doing the rounds, Kareena revealed to Mumbai Mirror, "This is all unnecessary news spread by jealous people.

I think, in this industry, people can't see two people happy in a relationship and doing so well. We are both in the best phase of our careers and that is what affects people. I am hurt and upset, as the entire news is false and baseless.

I would never have reacted if there were any truth to it. We definitely don't want to entertain such malicious gossip."

When asked who she suspects of spreading these false claims, Kareena said, "Obviously these rumours have started from somewhere.

It is disgusting to involve families into things like these. I would never discuss my personal life on film sets. And the fact of the matter is that Saif and I know how close we are. We don't owe anyone any explanation.

All these media speculations sometimes get to us. At the end of the day, we are known for our jobs and we have always been open to everyone about our relationship. "

Ironically, amidst these talks of a break-up, there have also been rumours of the couple marrying soon. However, Kareena confessed, "I have been shooting regularly. I know that people have been speculating that we will marry soon, but I have so many movies to finish and Saif is busy with his films.

We have Agent Vinod, which releases in December. How can we get married now? If we announce that we are going to get married on a particular date, then people will speculate about the guest list and other things."

Her personal life might be attracting negative publicity, but nobody can take away the professional high she is on with films opposite the Khans. Kareena will soon join the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and other Bollywood icons idolized at Madam Tussauds.

Kareena excitedly said, "I have not spoken to anyone about this, but it is wonderful and a proud feeling. To be next to our legends like Amitji, Shah Rukh, Salman, Ash and Sachin is a proud feeling. It is something that my grandchildren can go see."

And she will not be the only Kapoor sister we see on the silver -screen this year. In regard to Karisma's return to Bollywood, in Vikram Bhatt's 3D thriller Dangerous Ishq, Kareena said, "You know I have hardly spoken to Karisma, but I am very happy for her.

She is looking better than any of us these days and she is super hot. I guess she wanted to come back and was waiting for the right script and now that she has got it, she is coming back."

After working on four projects this year, Kareena and Saif are all geared up to jet-set to Paris for some much needed rest and recreation.

She explained, "I have been shooting non-stop. Saif and I are now taking a break and going to Paris for a vacation to spend some time together, as I have four films releasing this year."
