Salman Khan in trouble again

The actor may have unwittingly bought land which legally cannot be bought or sold as it belongs to the entire village.

On Thursday, more than 250 villagers gathered at the talathi's office in Panvel, protesting what they say is an illegal sale of their land to a political leader and actor Salman Khan.

The actor, who is embroiled in two other court cases, may be looking at a protracted legal battle again, because according to the rule book, buying or selling of land which belongs to any village is a cognisable offence.

The sleepy Vaje village near Panvel, home to 307 families, is putting up a spirited fight for 83 acres of surplus land they were given by the government to be tilled.

The Panch along with the villagers were joint custodians of this land till it was sold off to Congress leader Harbhans Singh and Salman. Villagers allege they were conned into parting with their land by the Panch, who convinced them that the alternative to selling was allowing the government to confiscate the land.

"The government gave the land to poor farmers for cultivation. Sometime back our Panch told us that government was planning to take the land back and in order to meet the expenses of putting up a fight, we need to sell a part of the land.

Recently we found out that 2.5 acres of the land had been sold to actor Salman Khan without even seeking any clearance from us, which is mandatory. Nobody knows where the money went," said Vishnu Patil, a resident of the village.

The villagers allege that the remaining 81 acres was also sold off unscrupulously. "The Panch gave us the same story and we agreed assuming that it was in our interest. We were conned into signing documents.

It was much later that we found out that the land was being sold to a political bigwig for profit," said Ganesh Patil, another resident, adding, "Though we did get some money from the second sale, we are all against letting outsiders grab it. We want all our land back."

The resolute villagers have filed complaints with Collector of Raigadh district who in turn has ordered an inquiry into the transactions. The inquiry is based on a circular dated January 2009 issued by the Raigadh District Collector, which says this about the vast tracts of lands owned by villages: "Since names of all the villagers cannot be put on the land records only names of Panch are put on them.

However, it has come to our notice that Panch or their kins sell off such land claiming to be theirs. These vast stretches of land are for the benefit for of public at large and not property of handful of people."

It further states, "It has been found that not only such sales have taken place but local Talathis and Circle Officers have given clearances to such sales. In some cases even the names of new owners have been added to land records.

This is a cognisable offence. In future no such sale or purchases should be allowed and would be considered as offences and action would be taken."

The panch however claims to be ignorant of the existence of any such rule. Bhagwan Patil, a member of the Panch, said, "We had no clue this circular. We are uneducated villagers. The officials who registered the names of new owners should have at least warned us. If we are being held responsible for this, so should they."

Patil also maintained that the decision to sell the land was taken in order to meet the expenses incurred during taking care of government formalities. "Every penny from both the sales was accounted for," he added.

The 7/12 land extract bearing Salman Khan's name
The Collector's office confirmed that an inquiry has been ordered. "Land belonging to the entire village cannot be sold or bought. In this case the villagers allege that they were conned by the Panch. Now we are hearing out the villagers, next we will question the Panch and buyers," said Chandrasen Pawar, Nayab Tehsildar of Panvel.

"We will finish the inquiry and recommend for both the deals to be scrapped. There is no doubt that the deals are in violation of the law," said a senior revenue department's official.

When Mumbai Mirror contacted Harbhans Singh, he said, "I had no idea of any such law. The deal was cleared by the then Tehsildar and even our name is on 7/12 extracts. I have paid the entire value of the plot to the village and I should not be blamed."

Several attempts to get in touch with Salman and his father Salim Khan, who manages the actor's property matters, did not yield any results.

Meanwhile both Khan and Singh have started work on their plots. A trip to the village revealed that they were constructing compound walls to demarcate their properties.

Dhoom 3 in 3D? Aamir hesitant...

It seems like Aditya Chopra wants to shoot Dhoom 3 in the 3D format. However Aamir Khan, who plays the negative lead in the film, seems to have reservations.

With the advent of the latest 3D technology which has caught the fancy of Hollywood in a big way, almost every third foreign film is being made in 3D. For many film-franchise which came up with their third part, like Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Step Up 3, Transformers Dark of the Moon, etc, the 3D just went in sync with the title. Now one big Bollywood film seems to be taking to the 3D format in its third installment. We are talking about Dhoom 3 .

Buzz is that Aditya Chopra has plans to take his ambitious film Dhoom 3 to another level by shooting it in the 3D format. The action-adventure genre of the film gives a lot of scope for 3D effects in the film. A source informs, "With the success of Haunted 3D , India's first film in the new 3D technology, the Yash Raj banner felt that Indian audiences have opened up to 3D cinema viewing. That made them more confident to experiment with the new format".

However, while Aditya Chopra seems quite upbeat about the idea, Aamir Khan, who plays the negative lead in the film, seems to have his reservations. "The 3D technology needs expertise and perhaps Aamir is not sure whether director Vijay Krishna Acharya (who last directed Tashan and wrote Dhoom 1 & 2 ) would be able to do justice to it", explains the source. Another reason could be the fact that with 3D coming into picture, technology takes precedence over performance. So perhaps Aamir's acting prowess might get camouflaged behind the technique.

Presently Aamir Khan is busy with the promotions of his next production Delhi Belly and once that film releases, he might have discussions with Aditya Chopra regarding shooting Dhoom 3 in 3D. We hope he agrees. D3 in 3D would be a visual delight!

Ameesha to take Vikram on board?

Emotions have no role in Ameesha Patel's professional life. And making this point clear, she says, "The first director on board my production house was David Dhawan but I would really like to appoint Vikram Bhatt too.

His films are absolutely paisa vasool. And I've heard of how well Haunted did. So, Vikram, why not?"
Incidentally, Vikram Bhatt too is fine with the idea. While the two were lovers at one time, they split bitterly but looks like the animosity is on the decline between them. And the salt-pepper haired filmmaker claims to be happy about Ameesha's aspirations. "I make movies for strangers, so why wouldn't I make it for a dear friend like Ameesha? But then, I also have my own company and have commitments. Filmmaking is such an expensive proposition these days, that working with someone you've known in the past can't be an emotional whim."

In the same vein, he adds, "But if Ameesha does extend an Invitation to join her company. I would certainly like to. I've got no reason to reject it."

Jason Sudeikis Cuts Kristen Stewart's Hair in New Promo for MTV Movie Awards

Jason Sudeikis is seemingly restless to fulfill his quest to meet and introduce himself to the nominees of the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. After interrupting Emma Stone's massage session in a promo for the forthcoming show, Sudeikis now goes to "Twilight" beauty Kristen Stewart and shows off his skill with a pair of scissors.

The clip sees Stewart settling in to get her hair cut. Once Sudeikis comes into the room, K-Stew gives him a deadpan statement, "You're not my hairdresser". At the end of the video, she gets what is called as a "bowl cut", when Sudeikis puts a bowl on her head and cuts her hair.

In another footage, Sudeikis drops in on Taylor Lautner. This time, Sudeikis, who tells the 19-year-old hunk that he is the host of the event, locks the werewolf of "Twilight" series in the back of a taxicab before running away into the street.

The 20th annual MTV Movie Awards will be held June 5 and broadcast live by MTV at 9 P.M. from Gibson Amphitheater in California. Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, Steve Carell, Shia LaBeouf and more are tapped to present the Golden Popcorn. People are encouraged to vote for the winners of the awards show, whose nominations are dominated by "The Twilight Saga's Eclipse" with eight nods.

Barbara Mori wants a second chance

Barbara Mori who made a thanda debut with Kites is struggling to get a break again in B-Town. The Mexican actress is so eager to return that she took to her micro blogging site to put up a SOS message. Barbara expected the Indian audience to give her the same love and adulation they gave Katrina Kaif but it didn't happen. She took heart in the fact that even Kat's first film Boom had been rejected by the cinegoers, so she wants a second chance.

However, there is a lack of interest from producers. Her friendship with Hrithik also seems to have waned. Even though the Roshan family promised support, nothing is happening on that front. A source reveals, "Barbara finds it embarrassing to keep following up with her Kites co-star. Since both Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan have gotten busy with their respective projects – the Agneepath remake and Krrish sequel, Mori feels she shouldn't impose, and try to find her way back in, on her own."

With new faces flooding the industry, Mori feels she will find it even more difficult to make her comeback. Adds the source, "She's not happy with the few offers that were made. After debuting with Hrithik, she can't go to work with a second rung actor for a small production house. Her effort is to connect with the biggies, but her language barrier and zero contacts in the industry is proving to be detrimental."
