Movie Review of 'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji'

Madhur Bhandarkar, the mind behind the hard-hitting and realistic cinema like ‘Chandni Bar’, ‘Page 3’ and ‘Fashion’ this time tried his hand in a comedy genres starring Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi and Omi Vaidya, Shruti Hasan, Shraddha Das and Shazahn Padamsee in the pivotal role. ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’ basically speaks about theses three men, their life-style and their love woman.

Paresh Rawal introduces the three men via voice over. Naren Ahuja (Ajay Devgan) is a bank officer. Playboy Abhay Suri (Emraan Hashmi) and shayar Milind Kelkar (Omi Vaidya) are his tenants. Naren and his wife (Rituparna Sengupta) married for the last seven years but unable to resolve their differences, they headed for splitville. Meanwhile, Naren falls for a beautiful 20 years old June Pinto (Shazahn Padamsee), a trainee in his bank.

Abhay is a gym instructor. He always tries to come closer to married and unmarried women but poor Abhay, he fails every time. He even losses his job for teasing a wife of an underworld don from Dubai. While Milind works in a matrimonial site, ‘zhatpatshaadi.com’ but till date could not able to find a suitable match for himself. He writes painful shayaris. He is smitten by radio jockey Gungun Sarka (Shraddha Das) who just uses him to solve her tensions. The film moves forward with different happenings of the three men and what consequences they face.

The film is comic but lacks humorous element. It can’t hold the interest of the audience for a long time. Pritam's music is very disappointing. Ravi Walia's cinematography is impressive. Sanjay Chhel's dialogues are inconsistently good.

Speaking about performances, Ajay Devgan was impressive. If he portrays serious roles well then he is equally good in comic character. We have seen Emraan Hashmi in the same role of casanova number of times and hence makes no differences. Omi Vaidya’s dialogue delivery was same as Chatur of ‘3 Idiots’ and he was quite impressive.

Shraddha Das is polite. Shazahn Padamsee acts well and stuck to her character. Tisca Chopra delivers a terrific performance. Shruti Haasan did not act well.

In the nutshell, Madhur Bhandarkar as a comic director fails to impress his audience. He shines as a realistic cinema but requires some more knowledge in comic category.

Movie Review of 'Dhobi Ghat '

The city ‘Mumbai’ has inspired many filmmakers to make films making it a backdrop. Kiran Rao’s directional debut ‘Dhobi Ghat’ is also the same. The movie is filmed in Mumbai and speaks about different aspects of the class residing in the city and their varied hopes.

The film is not like a typical Bollywood naach-gaana type. It is unconventional. It does not have a mass appeal. Ideally speaking, the film is made for all but won’t like by everyone. Only a particular section will cherish it and understand what it basically wants to tell. Those who will get into the nerve of the film will recommend it and those who will dig the movie for entertainment will feel boring.

Four different characters form the basis of the story. Shai, played by Monica Dogra is an NRI investment. The second protagonist is Arun, played by Aamir Khan, he is an anguished artist. Munna, played by Prateik Babbar, is a dhobi who aspires to become an actor And the last but not the least is Yasmin, a young married Muslim girl, played by Kriti Malhotra, who makes video diaries.

Four of them belong to different professions, their ideology varies but their path collides at one point of time. Shai meets Arun in an exhibition and both fall for each other. The time period of their togetherness was very short; it was only a one night stand. The next morning, when he woke up, he blames excess drinking for the incident and left Shai.

Then one fine day, Shai happens to meet Munna, a dhobi but a wannabe actor. They make a strange relationship. Shai makes a portfolio of Munna and they happen to spend time together, go out together, watches movie. Both are happy at each other’s company. Munna had a feeling for Shai but she is ignorant about his feelings.

Another character that moved the movie forward is Yasmin. She was Arun’s tenant. When she left his house, she left her videos in the house which Aamir discovers. The rest of the films show how incidences make an imprint in one’s life and mind.

Kiran Rao and her cinematographer Tushar Kanti Ray has very well lifted the city of dreams, ‘Mumbai’, its night life, the rush, the traffic, the local trains, the time of festivity and everything for what Mumbai is basically known for. Gustavo Santaolalla's is convincing. Tushar Kanti Ray's cinematography is first rate.

Speaking about performances, Prateik Babbar has a bright future in the Indian film industry. His body language, dialogue delivery, expressions leaves a mark. He is too impressive. The debutantes Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra perform very naturally and deserve kudos. Last but not the least is the Aamir Khan. He is already carrying the tag of perfectionist and this time too his acting shows that he is excellent.

‘Dhobi Ghat’ is a step forward to bring the parallel cinema to the mainstream. As all new transition takes time, this type of films will also take their own suitable time to impress their audience. Good attempt from a debutante director, Kiran Rao.

Movie Review of 'No One Killed Jessica '

No One Killed Jessica’ is based on a real story. Jessica Lal’s murder case in 1999 stirs the nation. Newspaper, news channels, magazine cover the story as exclusive report but hardly one is aware of its outcome but NOKL reveals the end.

Real life incident always inspires filmmaker to make a film based on the issue but few succeed to convert reality into celluloid efficiently. But Rajkumar Gupta is one among those few directors that has been able to bring justice to the real story. Gupta has brought life to the story of Jessica Lal's murder case.

He went through the root of the story and captured the reality. Gupta does complete justice to the case and able to hold the interest of the audience till the end.
Jessica Lal (Myra Karn), a waitress of Delhi Night club least knows that her life would come to an end just that she said no to offer any more  drink to a powerful politician son Manish (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub). The club closed when Manish asked for one more drink to Jessica. When Jessica refused to serve any more drink to Manish, he pointed his gun towards Jessica Lal and shot her in the witness of 300 guests.

Out of fear, no one bother to revolt the incident and being the son of a powerful political, Manish walked out. Life was as usual for Manish. Jessica Lal’s family could do nothing except crying over the death of Jessica. Postmortem reports were mishandled, evidences were rubbed and witnesses were purchased with money. It seems life has no value over money.  Jessica’s sister Sabrina (Vidya Balan) lost all hopes to bring justice to his dead sister, she could do nothing.

Meera (Rani Mukherjee), a spirited TV journalist was busy with Kargil war coverage when the entire incident took place and least gave importance to the case. She thought it was an open case and shut case. But when she gone though the case, she was shocked to know how the case was mishandled. Meera determined to bring justice to the family and she moved on. She was not alone in this journey of truth and justice, general public hold her hand and she moved forward with their support.

It was not an easy film to make because people already had some knowledge about it and it required extensive research. It was a sensitive issue and slight changes in the script might have proved fatal. But Rajkumar Gupta has kept a balance of everything and delivered a wonderful film which has full of thrill, energy, grip and entertaining value.
The first half is just ok but the second half is more captivating. The dialogues are very convincing and touchy. Though there is a little scope for music, Amit Trivedi's music is situational and justifies the situation. Aarti Bajaj's editing is fine. Anay Goswami's cinematography is highly appreciable.

Speaking about performances, Rani Mukherjee has delivered her best. She justifies the role of a journalist. Vidya Balan too deserves huge round of applause. She has portrayed her role very well, specially her confrontation scene with Rani. Myra is too good; she can create a niche in Bollywood. Neil Bhoopalam is ok. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub is incredible. Every time he appears on the screen, you feel like hitting him.

’No One Killed Jessica’ is a well made film, very convincing. It leaves an impression for a long period after stepping out of the theatre. The film has done full justice to the Jessica Lal case. Do not miss it.

New Superman Henry Cavill is delighted to be latest British star to land role as iconic hero

They are America's three most famous superheroes - but now Superman, Batman and Spider-Man are all flying the flag for Britain.
Henry Cavill was yesterday unveiled as the latest to don the red cape of Superman, following Christian Bale as Batman and Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man.
Scots comic genius Mark Millar hailed the trio as the vanguard of a super-powered generation of British actors.
Jersey-born Cavill was the shock announcement to play the alien good-guy in Superman: Man of Steel.
Tom Welling, who plays the character on television's Smallville, True Blood star Joe Manganiello and Mad Men's John Hamm were all tipped for the role.
Kick-Ass and Wanted creator Millar - who has written comic books on Superman and Spider-Man - admitted that many people in the industry can't believe the big three superhero roles are all being played by Brits.
Yesterday, he told the Daily Record: "You always define superheroes with America but something weird is happening with this generation.
"It just feels like suddenly there's an opportunity for anyone. Having the three is a bizarre coincidence.
"What we maybe have is a great new wave of British actors.
"It happened in the Sixties with Sean Connery and Michael Caine and maybe it's happening now.
"The other actor people haven't thought about is James McAvoy, who is the lead in the new X-Men movie "So the idea of having a Scottish guy in it is even better than an English guy. I love it.
"Hopefully it will only be a matter of time before we get a Scottish Batman or a Glaswegian Wonder Woman."
However, Mark said he's not sure how the American public will take to the news that Superman is a Brit.
Mark, who made Superman Russian in his 2003 comic book Red Son, said: "One of my friends who works in the industry asked, 'Can you really have someone who is English playing the part of America's greatest icon?'
"I said you've got to remember Superman is Kryptonian. He's not really American. You guys just adopted him."
But as the new Superman, Cavill has to uphold "truth, justice and the American way".
The relatively unknown 27-year-old will also have to slip into blue tights and a red cape, although he has worn tights previously in his role as Charles Brandon in The Tudors.
Cavill was once dubbed "the unluckiest man in Hollywood" by Empire magazine, after missing out on several of the biggest roles of the past decade.
Cavill was beaten by Daniel Craig to the role of James Bond in Casino Royale after being deemed too young for the part. He was also said to have auditioned for the title role in Batman Begins.
Cavill was also a leading contender for the part when directors Brett Ratner and McG were attached to direct Superman Returns, which Bryan Singer ended up directing.
Brandon Routh beat him to the Superman role in 2006 movie, Superman Returns.
He also missed out on playing Edward Cullen in the Twilight films despite author Stephenie Meyer wanting him for the part. Instead the role went to Robert Pattinson.
No wonder Cavill admitted he is thrilled to take on the coveted role.
"In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognised and revered character of all time," he said. "I am honoured to be a part of his return to the big screen."
The new Superman will be directed by Zack Snyder, who has previously directed 300 and Watchmen.
Speaking about the appointment of Cavill, a Warner Brothers source said: "He's got an amazing quality.
"He doesn't look too much like Reeve and Routh but he's big and strong and he has a very modern feel."
In the new film, which is set for a December 2012 release, fans will be treated to some spectacular special effects in a very modern version of the original story.
Cavill joins a long line of actors to play the famous man in tights.
Kirk Alyn was the first actor to play him on screen in the 1948 film serial Superman and its 1950 sequel, Atom Man Vs Superman.
George Reeves played Superman in the first film, 1951's Superman And The Mole Men and the following television series Adventures of Superman.
The most famous screen Superman was Christopher Reeve, who played the mild-mannered newshound Clark Kent and Superman in four films, Superman: The Movie (1978), Superman II (1980), Superman III (1983), and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987).
A horse-riding accident in 1995 left the actor paralysed from the neck down and he later died of a cardiac arrest in 2004 at the age of 52.
During the Nineties, Dean Cain played the Man of Steel in the television series The New Adventures of Superman, while Tom Welling has played a young version of Superman in Smallville since 2001.
Many fans will be disappointed Brandon Routh didn't get another chance at the part.
But Cavill will have a fight on his hands to beat Batman and Spider-Man to box office gold.
The new look Spider-Man will see Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker developing his abilities in high school. Emma Stone plays Parker's first love Gwen Stacy, while Rhys Ifans takes on the role of the Lizard. Martin Sheen and Sally Field will play Parker's uncle and aunt.
To make Spidey's aerial acrobatics even more impressive, the film will be released in 3D and is scheduled to be released on July 3, 2012.
Meanwhile Batman: The Dark Knight Rises will see the return of Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne's alter ego, Michael Caine as Alfred and Gary Oldman as cop Jim Gordon.
Opening after Spider-Man in the UK on July 20, 2012, the inclusion of big names will once again attract fans.
Anne Hathaway will play Catwoman and love interest Selina Kyle, Tom Hardy will play super-strong baddie Bane and there are rumours that Robin Williams will play evil scientist Dr Hugo Strange.
Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Let the battle begin.

Christian Bale
Batman
The 37-year-old father of one from Wales became a star at 13 when he featured in Steven Spielberg's Empire Of The Sun.
He later starred alongside Ewan McGregor in 1997's Velvet Goldmine and played a serial killer in American Psycho.
Batman first appeared in 1939. Bruce Wayne, a millionaire from Gotham City swore to wipe out crime and created an armoury of gadgets and weapons, donning a bat suit to keep his identity secret.

Andrew Garfield
Spider-Man
The 27-year old was born in California to a British mother and an American father, but was raised in Surrey. He made his telly debut in 2005 in Channel 4's Sugar Rush.
He won a BAFTA for best actor for A Boy and TV trilogy Red Riding followed. Hollywood took notice last year in his role in The Social Network.
Spider-Man first appeared in 1962 when teen Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider and given the power to walk up walls and create webs.

New nude photos of Rihanna surface online

London, Feb 1Rihanna has once again become embroiled in a new steamy photo scandal after new nude pictures of the R and B star were leaked online last week.
The website which published the pictures claimed they were texted by the pop star herself to a former boyfriend who shared them with his friends – one of whom sent them to the media, reports the Daily Mail.
The emergence coincides with claims from a Hollywood socialite that she enjoyed a lesbian fling with the star.
Model Natasha ‘Tajah’ Burton had said that she enjoyed a steamy encounter with a female singer, widely thought to be Rihanna.
Though Tajah did not name the Barbadian as the star, she refused to deny that she was her former partner.
“I would say she’s bisexual. It was really exciting. It was unexpected and it was very fun. The sex was really good but there was more to it – we really had a connection,” she had told the Sun.
The naked photos of Rihanna – which she texted to a former boyfriend – shows the 22-year-old topless, clad only in a pair of lacy underwear, covering her breasts with her arms as she poses in a mirror.
Another shot shows her lifting her shirt open with a finger provocatively resting on her tongue.
It is not the first time Rihanna has had nude photos purporting to be her leaked onto the web.
Raunchy photos allegedly showing her and then-boyfriend Chris Brown hit the web in 2009. (ANI)

Hrithik- Suzanne walks out of Filmfare award ceremony…

Now-a-days, the fever of awards ceremonies seems to be fading with the Bollywood stars. “I don’t really have any plans to go overseas and make any movies this year,” Crowe said.
“We’ve got a lot of things going on in Australia and I need to spend some time here to solidify and build,” he added.
Crowe is presently focusing on the adaptation of ‘My Brother’s Keeper’. (ANI)

Kim Kardashian in tears over ‘full on porn’ magazine cover

London, Feb 1 – Socialite Kim Kardashian was seen in tears during an episode of ‘Kourtney and Kim Take New York’, after she discovered she had been featured in the nude on the cover of a magazine.
Kim, 30, was very upset when she was shown a preview of her nude shoot for the front cover of W magazine, as she had been under the impression that the cover would be an arty photograph.
But when she saw it, she said it amounted to “full on porn”, as along with the cover, which featured her naked with a few strips of text covering her modesty, the inside pages, showed her completely nude slathered in silver paint.
“Oh my God, I’m more naked than I was in Playboy. I’m so mad right now. She promised I would be covered with artwork. You can see nipple,” the Daily Mail quoted her as sobbing to her sisters.
“The whole concept was sold to me that nothing would be seen. I feel so taken advantage of.
“I’ve definitely learned my lesson. I’m never taking my clothes off again, even if it’s for Vogue,” she was heard telling her sisters.
She was then seen making an emotional phone call to her mother Kris Jenner in Los Angeles, who told her to “own” the pictures and come out with her head held high.
By the time the magazine came out, Kim had changed her mind, declaring she is “proud” of the pictures.
“I’m glad I did them,” she stated. (ANI)

Eva Longoria, Tony Parker’s divorce finalized

London, Feb 1 – ‘Desperate Housewives’ actress Eva Longoria’s divorce with basketball player Tony Parker has been finalised in a Texas court.
The divorce was finalised Friday, reports dailymail.co.uk.
The couple split suddenly in November last year amid allegations that Parker had cheated on Longoria with his teammate’s wife.
A delay in the divorce was expected because of conflicting divorce petitions filed by each party’s lawyers. However, Longoria’s representatives quietly filed papers to dismiss her petition in L.A. County Superior court the same day.
Texas is the same place where the couple signed their pre-nuptial agreement. Longoria, 35, was apparently quite upset when she found out that her estranged husband had filed a counter petition after she filed one in the court.
Both parties intended to uphold their pre-nuptial agreement, but Longoria’s petition demanded for spousal support, a clause which was not in line with the original contract. However, all disagreements are now said to have been resolved.
