Celina strips in a night club

She got people to look up and notice her with her pole dancing act in her debut flick, Janasheen and once again this glam doll has some bold act up her sleeve. Celina Jaitley will play a night club stripper in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s forthcoming film Showman.

Celina has always been playing glamorous roles. Speaking about her role from New Zealand where she has gone to attend the premiere of her first international film, she says, “I am playing this girl born to an English man and Indian woman. She unfortunately comes from a very poor family background in London. She has grown up to be a stripper in a night club and a con artist. Basically her main aim is to own a night club.”

It can be recalled that Celina played a pole dancer in her debut film. “Yeah but there I was a cop who pretends to be a pole dancer. Everyone comes to know at the end of the movie that I am an undercover cop. And here I am again pretending to be a stripper but not one actually. I am just trying to get all the hot girls to work for my club.”

Apart from Celina the film also stars Govinda and Rimi Sen in pivotal roles. It’s produced by Reel Life Productions and has been extensively shot in the UK.

Tabbu turn 38

Tabassum Hashmi or Tabu as she's better known as has a filmi background too. She's the niece of the much revered actress Shabana Azmi and sister of Farha Naaz who carved a niche for herself in the 80s in Bollywood.

It's another matter that she never showed it off and preferred to do things her own unique way.

She's been around for really a long time now and even at 38 (from November 4th onwards which is her B'day), she's still very much a sensation.

Her debut was with Dev Anand's 'Hum Naujawan' in the 80s as a teen.

She had to wait for ten years to make her debut as an adult heroine and won the Filmfare Best Debut Award in 1994 for her act in 'Vijaypath' opposite Ajay Devgan.

Even though there were flops, she had a box-office masala film like 'Saajan Chale Sasuraal' opposite Govinda.

But her great caliber as an actress was only revealed with Maachis (1996)! Tabu's portrayal fetched her the National Award for Best Actress.

Her Lady Macbeth act in 'Maqbool' was a success and so was the sensitive portrayal of the Bengali woman Aushima who settles down in the US in 'The Namesake'.

In between there was 'Cheeni Kum', opposite Amitabh Bachchan which celebrated the love of an older man and a younger man in a light manner!

She's still doing good work in the South and has interesting roles in movies like 'Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai' and Chandra Prakash Dwivedi's powerful epic 'The Legend of Kunal' coming up.

Legendary film maker B R Chopra passed away at 95

He's the man who gave us Naya Daur in the 1950s that dealt with the conflict between man and machine as well as the kitschy

Mahabharat in the 1980s that brought the epic alive on the small screen. Baldev Raj Chopra, the iconoclast filmmaker, managed to successfully strike a balance between socially relevant and commercial cinema.

Chopra, who crossed over from Lahore to New Delhi during partition, viewed filmmaking as a mission to highlight social issues and not as a money-making enterprise. The 18 movies that he directed and 28 that he produced from 1951 to 1992 bear testimony to that.

Lets express our heartfelt condolence to the bereaved Chopra family

Born in Punjab's Ludhiana town in 1914, Chopra initially worked as a film journalist.

After obtaining his Masters degree in English Literature from the Lahore University, he began working as a film reviewer with a monthly called Cine Herald, published from Lahore. He soon earned the status of a fearless writer and his reviews were found to be strident, but Chopra never changed his style.

Chopra's journalism career, however, was short-lived. The pre-partition communal violence, which saw his house in Lahore being burnt down, forced the family to join the exodus of millions of Hindus towards the Indian side after division. They settled in New Delhi.

While still in Lahore, Chopra had tried his hand at filmmaking and started making a movie called "Chandni Chowk", which was financed by his father's friend. However, he could not complete it due to the partition.

Naya Daur" (1957), "Sadhana" (1958), "Dhool ka Phool" (1959), "Kanoon" (1960), "Gumrah" (1963), "Waqt" (1965) and Humraaz (1967) were some of the other films that the legendary filmmaker made.

The last film that Chopra directed was "Kal Ki Awaaz" in 1992, after which he passed on the baton to his son Ravi Chopra, who has since made hit films like "Baghban" and "Baabul".
