THE flamboyant hat worn by Princess Beatrice at last month's royal wedding has been sold for the princely sum of STG81,100 ($A123,325) on eBay. 

Proceeds from the sale of the hat, designed by Irish milliner Philip Treacy, will be split between two charities: the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, and British charity Children in Crisis.

The princess, the oldest daughter of Prince Andrew and a granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II, provided one of the most memorable moments of a dramatic day when she stepped out in the eccentric headwear, likened to a giant pretzel.

Other royal-watchers compared the creation to a toilet seat and it has inspired its own Facebook page, "Princess Beatrice's ridiculous royal wedding hat", which has a following of more than 143,000 people.
"I've been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted," the princess said in a statement on the auction site.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities," she added.
Treacy, who is now based in London, designed many of the hats on show at the April 29 marriage between Prince William and Kate Middleton, which was watched by an estimated global audience of two billion.

The celebrated designer said he was "delighted, flattered and touched" by the 22-year old princess's decision to donate the hat to charity.

"I hope that people all over the world will be generous and that this hat will benefit many. A hat is a symbol of positivity," he added.

The piece is described on the site as "a unique sculptural celebratory headpiece" made of tea rose silk, adding: "This is a gravity defying hat!"

"I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have," the young royal said.

Udita takes on a new role: Scriptwriting

Model-turned-actress is penning a script for veteran actor Naseerudin Shah

Udita Goswani has just completed a film script. The model-turned-actress steps into her new role as writer with a romantic yet mature love story.

And the only actor, she had on her mind while writing her project is Naseeruddin Shah.

"I have written my scenes keeping him in mind and no one else. He's perfect! I just hope he says yes when I'm done with the script," said Udita. "I will approach him with the final draft. Then I can narrate each and every scene to him."

Udita had been toying with the idea of writing for a long time. "I started writing, then got confused and stopped.

But I am finally completing the script now. Although the story is ready, I am working on the screenplay. I have realised that every scene in the film can't be from a woman's point of view."

Her script is, however, not very filmy. "I have drawn a lot from my real life. That's why it's so special to me."
So is Udita dating anyone from the film industry? "I don't want to date anyone from the industry as I would like to have a life beyond films.

People from the industry live, eat and breathe films all the time.  Everything in life can't  be about the success of a film," she said Udita will next be seen in Diary Of A Butterfly.

Salman will play an agent of India's premier external intelligence agency in Kabir Khan's next

Salman Khan seems to be getting ready to play his most realistic character yet. In Kabir Khan's much talked-about film, that will go on the floors towards the end of the year, Salman will play the role of  an undercover agent for India's external intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

The role of a secret agent will be quite different from the flamboyant roles Salman has been doing of late

To get into the mind of a RAW agent would require a level of intellectual preparation that Salman, who believes in spontaneity, has never undertaken in his life.

Says a source, "Salman has always been a very spontaneous actor. Woh dil se kaam karta hai. But when he heard the script for Kabir Khan's film, Salman was absolutely fascinated.

He couldn't get over the fact that ordinary civilians sometimes act as undercover government agents. Aisa bhi hota hai kya? he asked Aditya Chopra, who went to Salman with the offer. Salman has agreed to undertake all the preparation needed for the part."

Playing a RAW agent is not quite the same experience as playing a swanky flamboyant guns-and-gals secret agent in the James Bond or Mission Impossible series.

Says the source, "It's far more complicated. Salman has to be a covert not an overt agent. RAW agents are taught to blend with the mainstream, to not stand out in a crowd, to be as nondescript as possible.

And yet, when the need arises, they need to be panther-like in their intellectual and physical agility. Salman has lately been doing extremely flamboyant parts. This one requires him to go the other way."

Saif Ali Khan, too, plays an undercover agent in his home production Agent Vinod. Director Sriram Raghavan has made sure Saif stays within the authentic zone.

But Kabir Khan, with his experience in well-researched documentary and docu-drama feature films, is looking at giving an entirely new dimension to Salman's personality.

When asked if Salman plays a RAW agent in his film Kabir Khan replied, "You know I will not comment on that."
In an earlier tete-a-tete Kabir had said, "Whatever I will direct next will have to be in the realistic space.

My roots are in documentary filmmaking. And even if I make feature films, I can't stray too far away from my origins."

'Titanic' to release in 3D next year!

James Cameron's 1997 hit movie 'Titanic', which received a record 11 Academy Awards, is all set to hit movie theatres worldwide in a 3D version next year.

In a clever marketing move, the return of the epic movie to the big screen has been schedule for a release on April 6, 2012, in time to mark the 100th anniversary of the doomed passenger liner setting sail from England on April 10, 1912.

"There''s a whole generation that''s never seen Titanic as it was meant to be seen, on the big screen. And this will be Titanic as you''ve never seen it before, digitally remastered at 4K (resolution) and painstakingly converted to 3D," News.com.au quoted Cameron, as saying in a statement issued by the studios and distributors.

"With the emotional power intact and the images more powerful than ever, this will be an epic experience for fans and newcomers alike," he added.

Katrina Kaif's 'hot' track in upcoming film might well be inspired by one of Deepika's 2009 releases Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone are headed for yet another showdown. Kat recently shot a song for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan that is supposedly going to knock the socks off Sheila Ki Jawani. It now appears that this number is quite similar in picurisation and setting to Deepika's Chor Bazari from Love Aaj Kal. Informs our source, "Katrina gets drunk after having bhaang at a highway dhaba and starts singing and dancing wildly." In the Love Aaj Kal track Dippy has 'one for the road' before shaking her booty. Kat has rumouredly called Dippy's item number in Dum Maaro Dum a "thanda" affair as compared to her own Sheila Ki Jawani from Tees Maar Khan. Not of interest As reported 'Not interested' (Hitlist, April 22), Kat has stated that she hasn't seen the DMD title track that features Dippy and that it doesn't interest her anyway. It's anybody's guess how the MBKD track will finally turn out, but what is sure, if sources are to be believed, that the two are not leaving any stone unturned in upstaging each other. Seems like Salman Khan's blue eyed girl Zarine Khan has someone special in her life. At her birthday bash last week, she was spotted getting cozy with an unknown guy.

"Zarine walked in at around 1 am with a bunch of friends. There were a few guys and a girl in her gang. Her brother was also present. She was dressed in a white top and a black mini skirt and had a tattoo of a heart inked on her left ankle. One guy in particular stood out as the object of attention," a source told Mid Day.

PDA was in full swing between the duo. "They were very comfortable in each other's company and were seen cosying up. Zarine and this guy kept showering each other with loving pecks on the cheeks, holding hands and hugging each other. Interestingly, when she hit the dance floor, the DJ played her hit track from Ready, Character Dheela Hai," added the source.

The mystery guy is apparently shorter than the Veer star. "He is a fair guy of normal build and slightly shorter than Zarine in height. He was dressed in blue denims and white shirt with gray stripes and has a spiked hairstyle," informed the source.

Zarine confirmed the reports but didn't admit any relationship with the guy. "I went there last weekend for my birthday bash. He is a very dear friend. The reason I was affectionate with him was because he arranged the surprise party for me. But I am very much single," the actress told the tabloid.

Being Half-Indian Is No Problem In Bollywood: Angela Jonsson

Born in Chennai to an Icelandic father and Mangalorean mother, 21-year-old model Angela Jonsson maintains that being half-Indian is no disadvantage in making it big in the Bollywood film industry any more.

"I don't think being a half-Indian impedes entry into Bollywood any more. In fact, I would like to believe that I have been blessed with the best of both worlds," Angela told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

There was a time when half-Indians and foreigners were offered only typical roles, but the scenario has changed ever since experimental scripts have come into play, said the model, more in the news for her link-up with actor Ranbir Kapoor.

"Also, the industry has become open and encouraging to newcomers. Films with newcomers seem to be getting a good response at the box office. So I am hoping for the best for myself too," she added.

The fair, slim and trim young girl's tryst with showbiz began when Angela won the 2011 Kingfisher Calendar Model Hunt, and went on to feature in the 2011 edition of the calendar.

But what has brought her in limelight is her link-up with a star like Ranbir.

Is that going to help her get a push in the industry?

"A lot has been written about this. And so far, and henceforth, I choose not to comment on it. It is a personal thing, and I would like whatever it is to remain personal," she commented.

As of now, Angela is concentrating on improving her acting, which was not in her scheme of things until a few months back.

She is taking dance, diction as well as acting classes to improve her chances of getting work in Bollywood.

"I want to be good at my craft before I get into anything. So it was important for me to enroll in an acting course, a diction class to improve my Hindi, and also dance classes. Once I am prepared, I should start auditioning seriously," Angela said.

Dance is something Angela has always been passionate about, and she feels that could be a bonus for her in the film industry.

"I've always loved being on stage. But I never thought I would get into acting. I had been learning various forms of dancing for a long time. Dance is a big thing in Bollywood, so I hope my talent helps me grow in it," she said.

Buoyed by the success of songs like Sheila ki jawaani and Munni badnaam hui, Angela, who is now based in Mumbai's Bandra, said she is open to "item numbers" as well.

"I would love to do an item number. Why not! Top actresses have done it and those songs have become a rage. Item songs have a 'wow' factor and that's what they are there for in films. For sure, I wouldn't mind doing it."

Katrina wants no controversy

Despite the raging controversy between them, actor Katrina Kaif is willing to give actor Sonakshi Sinha, who's apparently elbowed her out of actor Salman Khan's inner circle and who's team reportedly spread rumours of her replacing Kat in endorsements, the benefit of doubt.

When asked to react on the Sonakshi episode, Katrina replies without taking any names. "The reason why I didn't react (Sonakshi controversy) is that till the point I know for sure that the person has done something or said something untoward towards me, I'm ready to give that person the benefit of the doubt. I follow that in my own life also. People can be misinformed or words might get twisted when they reach me. It's best to ignore and not participate in all those talks," she says.

Katrina says that for every actor in the industry, the work should speak for him or her. "I genuinely believe that your work should speak for you and things like these (malicious gossip) don't really matter. If you don't deliver your work, everything else matters. When you prove yourself, nothing else matters. Your work needs to speak for itself," adds Katrina.

The actor says that she finds gossip and slander a futile exercise. "Poking somebody like me is a futile exercise. Besides, I don't get time for myself in the middle of many endorsements, shoots and constant travel. I need to find time for my mom and my six sisters. I am planning a vacation soon with them," she smiles.

Jennifer Aniston has revealed that running and yoga have helped her maintain her stunning bikini body -even in her 40s.

"I do yoga every other day and I usually do some sort of run before," Fox News quoted Aniston as telling CBS Early Show.

Dannii Minogue quits The X Factor

Dannii Minogue has decided to step down as judge on UK 'The X Factor' following a possible clash between the dates of the show and 'Australia''s Got Talent'.

The 39-year-old Australian singer, who joined the show in 2007 and mentored two winners, Matt Cardle and Leon Jackson, will be quitting the ITV talent contest just days before the new series is due to launch, reports the BBC.

Her departure fuels more speculation about the make-up of the panel, after the decision by Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole to appear as judges on the US version of the show.

She confirmed her decision to leave by posting a link through to the website mydaily.co.uk, for which she is a contributing editor, via her Twitter page.

"I am so disappointed that I can''t be a part of The X Factor this year.

"I''m going to miss the show and the amazing team who work so incredibly hard on it," she said.

"During discussions for me to return [to The X Factor] it became clear that unfortunately, this year, the X Factor audition dates in the UK clash with the live shows of Australia''s Got Talent during June and July. For this reason I am unable to return," she added.

After much speculation, it can now be revealed that Arjun Rampal will be the lead opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine.

The role is that of a super star who falls in love with Ash and uses her to climb the ladder of success. This will be Madhur's first film with Arjun and his first time opposite Ash. A source reveals, "Madhur will present Arjun like no one else has. His look will be totally glamorous, and his character has grey shades adding twists and turns to the story." When asked about the clash on July 1, Aamir reacted in his trademark expression, "Ohhh, is it?!!" He added, "There is always room for two good films. They can co-exist. Remember Dil and Ghayal were released on the same day? Again Lagaan and Gadar hit screens together. So it's not new for me," he signed off.

“It will offer information on my daily sense of style and my personal take on some of the characters I played, like Poo (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, 2001), Chameli (Chameli, 2003), Dolly (Omkara, 2006) and Pia (3 Idiots, 2009) whose wardrobes made a fashion statement off-screen too,” says the actor.

What about Pooja from Tashan (2008) given that she triggered off the size zero phenomenon? “Of course size zero will figure, since it sparked off a national debate. That’s one subject associated with me that can never be forgotten,” retorts Kareena, who has written the foreward to her dietician friend, Rujuta Diwekar’s book, Women And The Weight Loss Tamasha.

Admitting that she lost weight for this particular Yashraj production that also brought her and beau Saif Ali Khan together, Kareena reasons, “I think I’m the best person to guide youngsters on how to knock off those not-needed pounds in the right way.”

Kareena hopes to launch her fashion line by the end of 2011. “Simple, ready-to-wear clothes that stand out for their casual chic, the kind that make up my everyday wardrobe. But bringing out a label takes times that’s in short supply this year,” sighs the actor who already has a clutch and a pizza named after her and is the brand ambassador for a Size Zero laptop. “I’m juggling with five big movies with the five Khans, Bodyguard, RA.One, Agent Vinod, Stand By Me and a still-untitled film with Aamir Khan. With these and my ad shoots, 24 hours is not enough,” she says.

Salman's Ready sells for fancy price

There is tremendous hype surrounding Salman Khan's Ready, his next big offering post last year's biggest hit
Dabangg.

The film that is the first big ticket Bollywood release post the long drawn out cricket season is being awaited by
the trade and the junta. Hence the prices it has got from the various territories is huge.

A trade source says, ``Ready has been reportedly sold for 11.61 cr for Maharashtra excluding Mumbai city; West Bengal territory for 2.25 cr; Mysore 2 cr, 2.25 Nizam/Hyderabad and overseas has fetched 9 cr--the highest for a Salman film.''

Salman's father Salim Khan has retained the distribution rights for CPCI and Rajasthan because he is one of the big players in this territory.

It is being said that Wave Cinemas will exploit the Mumbai city distribution themselves. No big star cast will release at least for a fortnight after Ready, so the film gets a clear run.

I look glamourous and sexy: Shefali Shah

Shefali Shah who has won accolades for her performances in "Satya", "Waqt" and "Gandhi, My Father" is all set to surprise the audience with her fun-loving role in Barnali Ray Shukla's "Kuchh Luv Jaisaa" that releases on May 27.

The young actress who jokes about her perceived dinosaur screen age just because she played Amitabh Bachchan's wife once in her husband Vipul Shah's "Waqt-A Race Against Time", laughs about how the best filmmakers in Bollywood are scared of breaking a prototype. Says Shefali, "All filmmakers talk about wanting great actors. However, if an actor has played a certain kind of a role once and excelled at it, then they keep typecasting the actor."According to Shefali there is an unsaid norm in the industry that if you are a heroine of the film, you do not need to act. In the same way, she also feels that there are people who believe that, "Intelligent, thinking actors cannot be glamorous, act sexy or dance."

Says Shefali, "The point is I look glamourous and I can dance without even trying too hard. Just because I am a wife and a mother and an actor who can play roles of any age, it doesn't mean that I should be typecast in any way."

Shefali has been receiving compliments from the most established filmmakers in Bollywood and outside. She says there are only a few who are willing to take the 'risk' of giving her a challenging role.

Asked whether she can handle an item song like a Malaika Arora Khan does; Shefali says, "Yes I would take an item song in my stride. But item songs are not the only way people dance. Only can dance with abandon in a discotheque."

Shefali is sure that Kuchh Luv Jaisaa will get filmmakers to offer her fresh challenges. "This film could really set people thinking on what I can do," she laughs.
