The style icon left her hotel looking picture perfect in a gorgeous purple design from Dior's spring summer collection teamed with two-tone grey heels and a stone coloured fur jacket.

Slimmer women receive higher salaries, while men earn more if they're fat

Washington, Feb 5 (ANI): 'Men should be big and strong, and women skinny' - a cultural lesson drilled into our heads ever since we were tots.
Unfortunately, that's how it has to be if you want to earn a fair salary.

According to a recent study, men who are skinnier than average cash smaller paychecks than normal-weighted men, while thin women are paid significantly more than their average-size counterparts, reports the Washington Post.

Experts say it is just another sign that as a society, we have internalized the unrealistic, media-driven physical ideals that show up in the workplace - and, therefore, the pocketbook.

Researchers Timothy Judge and Daniel Cable found thin women earned about 16,000 dollars more a year on average. In contrast, thin men earned about 8,000 dollars less than their more muscular male co-workers.

They said that much of the problem is the result of subconscious decisions based on entrenched social stereotypes.heir report cites studies in which obese individuals were identified as 'undisciplined, dishonest and less likely to do productive work'.

Conversely, the researchers pointed out that employers and fellow employees associate values of self-discipline, thrift, hard work and positivity with thin individuals.

The researchers suggested that employers look at their assumptions about employees' weight, because they may be rooted in prejudice.

The study is published in the Journal of Applied Psychology. (ANI)

Ralph Fiennes to play baddie in new Bond film?

London, Feb 5 (ANI): Brit actor Ralph Fiennes is apparently in talks to play an important role in the forthcoming 007 movie.
His representatives are apparently in discussion with the producers and director Sam Mendes about a role in the film that so far is known only as James Bond 23.

Mendes has spoken to Fiennes about taking on what has been described to as 'a darkly complex' role.

"It's the first of a new generation of Bond films, and the ideas Mendes has push the film into darker territory where the characters are modern, mature and challenging," the Daily Mail quoted a film executive in Los Angeles connected to the production, as saying.

The 'Red Dragon' star was approached because "the part is one of extreme complexity and only an actor of great ability and dexterity can take it on - and Ralph's name is top of our list." (ANI)

Priyanka and Shahid, bitten by the love bug

Shahid Kapoor came into fame after his marvelous performance in “Jab We Met” directed by Imtiaz Ali in 2007. This movie not only made him famous as an actor, but he also started to get offers from various directors both new and renowned.  Even though he started his acting career pretty early in advertisements and music videos, it is “Jab We Met” that brought him fame and recognition in the Bollywood film industry.

After his break up with Kareena Kapoor, who was the leading lady opposite to him in “Jab We Met”, there were many rumours regarding his personal life and his alleged link ups with different ladies, from the industry as well as from other walks of life. He paired with different Bollywood heroine like Vidya Balan, Genelia D’Souza and Priyanka Chopra. Shahid Kapoor also paired opposite to Priyanka Chopra in the crime film Kaminey directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. This film got critical acclamation from all corners along with positive reviews. After he was paired with Priyanka Chopra in this film, where they have acted as on screen couple, there are rumours in and outside the industry that the two are emotionally involved and may be in love. Even though Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra are yet to confirm about their alleged relationship, they can be pretty often seen together in and around the city.

In fact after Shahid Kapoor broke off with her former actress girl friend Kareena Kapoor, he has been linked with celebrities and actresses like Vidya Balan, Sania Mirza and many more. But the actor has denied his link up with any of the ladies. The actor on the other hand has been seen with Priyanka Chopra, the former Miss World in various events and in coffee shops, where they have spent quality time. All rumours came to an end when Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra was seen together publicly in the birthday celebration of Karim Morani.

In the fiftieth birthday celebration, the couple were not only spotted together but also seen spending some time on their own amidst the crowd. Even though both of them did not come together in the party, but as soon as Shahid entered the party, they made a space for their own self. Although Shahid Kapoor was not very open with the idea of being spotted with Priyanka Chopra in front of the paparazzi, Priyanka Chopra was pretty cool with it.

In fact Priyanka Chopra did also organize for a surprise birthday bash for Shahid Kapoor and welcomed the guests over there. There are talks that Priyanka and Shahid Kapoor has been spotted together during midnight in their apartments, spending some quiet time in each others company. So even the people concerned are not willing to agree whether they are in love or not, but their moves are enough for us to assume that they are in love with each other.

So we can expect that this will be another famous romance of the tinsel town, where the love story of Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra will become pretty famous.

Akshay speaks about 'Patiala House' in details

1.  How would you describe the plot of the film?
Patiala House is based in Southall London where the Kahlon extended family has lived for four generations. The movie follows my battle to follow my dream of becoming a fast-paced bowler for the England Cricket team, fighting the odds, although the cricket element of the film is incidental, and symbolic of something bigger, representing any dream or ambition one may hold in his or her heart. My character, Gurtej Singh Kahlon, or ‘Gattu’, is the eldest son and runs the family corner store for a living. He is a dutiful son but also adamant about following his dreams.

2. Do you relate strongly with the character of Parghat Singh Kahlon?
Yes to a very great extent, I do. In a way I can say that Parghat Singh Kahlon or Gattu, as a character is an amalgamation of me as a person and my struggles in life. Some years ago I went through the same situation, when I had a run of films that didn’t do so well. I thought I was finished. But then I did a film called 'Jaanwar', which I felt was my second chance in the industry. I did not give up but kept fighting and trying, because I knew this is exactly what I wanted and I was not one to quit without a fight. Today, I am glad my persistence paid off and I want everyone to take an example from this and keep going, just keep fighting.
Patiala House represents me as a person; very strong-minded, respectful and loving. I wanted to make a success of my life, set myself some goals and worked hard to achieve those things from a young age. I never felt any job was beneath me, but while working in small jobs, I would continue to dream big and actively take steps towards achieving those dreams.

 3. Was this role challenging?
I had to engage in a lot of emotional and cultural preparation for this film which in itself has been a challenge. The film offered me the opportunity as an artist to explore a persona that was deeply guided by a spectrum of conflicting sentiments and emotions. The unique thing about Gattu’s character is that whilst there is a multitude of conflicting messaging, reasoning and dilemmas internally, his character is outwardly quite stoic and he conceals the emotional turmoil that is going on inside him.

4. The film's message is about generation gaps and overcoming the problems within this issue. What are your own thoughts about this matter?
My personal take on this is that family pressures and expectations are something that most youth experience and will have to address at various stages of their lives whether it’s about which career one should pursue, who they should marry, or how they should conduct their life in general. It’s a completely global phenomenon and to be honest not one that will disappear so easily. At each stage of one’s life, norms, values and expectations change which impact relationships. The key to overcoming this issue is mutual respect, empathy and understanding.
It’s important to address the situation correctly, explain to parents what you believe in a way that is respectful and doesn’t hurt their sentiments and beliefs. It might not always work in one’s favour but that doesn’t mean that you give up on your dreams. There is always a second chance and you have to grab it at the right time and do your best.

5. Are you a cricket buff in real life?
Oh yes! I love both, playing and spectating. I would play cricket in the bylanes of Delhi where I grew up as a kid. I always looked up to cricket personalities like Vivian Richards, Sunil Gavaskar, Imran Khan and always enjoyed their on-pitch performances. With Patiala House I got to work very closely with cricketing veterans and icons such as Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Keiron Pollard, Andrew Symonds, Shaun Tait, Herschelle Gibbs, Nasser Hussain and David Gower to name a few. Whenever I am at home, my son Aarav and I have this schedule to play cricket together as Aarav is also extremely fond of cricket but only to play, watching it is still boring for him but he's only 8.

6. Tell us about your preparation for the cricket scenes.
I had to undergo thorough training with veteran cricketer Balwinder Singh Sandhu. This role was a challenge as I had to train as a fast paced bowler in preparation for all of the cricket portions of the film, but at the same time it was very enjoyable as I got to try my hand at my favorite sport, cricket. He taught me how to play cricket with skill and as a sportsman which is extremely different to playing the game for leisure. I had to perfect my skill to the tee to ensure my bowling skills looked absolutely realistic on screen and that I did justice not only to the sport but to Gattu as well.

7. How was the experience working with Anushka Sharma?
Anushka is a very sweet girl and a hugely talented actress. She fits perfectly into her character as Simran, a girl next door aspiring to be a Bollywood actress. She as a character is very strong; someone who will not give up on her dreams easily and hence goes ahead to pursue them. She is the one who encourages Gattu to chase his dreams, so here again you can see, behind every successful man there is a woman. She will really charm audiences with her performance. She has done a superb job and it was such a pleasure working with her – she’s a through and through professional with an immaculate work ethic.

8. How was it working with Rishi Kapoor for the film?
It was an absolute delight to work with such an icon of the Indian film industry, who is so very humble and a wonderful human being. I have literally grown up watching his films and having the opportunity to work with him again was a total honor. He is such a great actor and inspiration and sharing the same screen space with him once again, as his on-screen son, was sheer joy.

9. This isn't the first film you've starred in a film that deals with British Asians. How does PatialaHouse differ from Namaste London in terms of its message?
Namastey London was more of a love story between a British born Asian who is in denial of her Indian roots and a guy who is from India and has a deep-rooted connection to his homeland.
Oh the other hand, Patiala House is more of an inspirational movie. It is about each and every individual who has had times of trial and tribulations but has emerged successfully out of it on the basis of his own will and hard work. It’s about being passionate about your dreams and fulfilling them as and when you get that second chance, if you were not successful the first time around.

10.  What do you think is the best thing about Patiala House?
As the reference Patiala suggests, the film is extremely big-hearted. There are so many wonderful attributes to this film that I would certainly be doing a severe injustice by mentioning just one quality to this film.
It’s been a labor of love for every person that had the honor and privilege of being involved in this film, in whatever capacity. I have faith that the collective love, hard work, dedication and vision of the entire unit will steal audiences’ hearts and that this film will stay with people for years to come.

11.  Which is your favorite song in the film?
It would have to be ‘Kyun Main Jagu’ which is also referred to as Gattu’s theme tune. The song conveys the very essence of this film. Listen to the lyrics very carefully, no joke even months after making this film when I play this song in my car I can’t help but get choked up, to be honest I still haven't understood why this song affects me so much, but it does, and I'm not afraid to admit that, listen for yourselves, see if you feel anything remotely powerful when you take in the words...

Akshay uses Twinkle’s ex-boyfriend’s nickname

It’s a mere co-incidence that in the film, ‘Patiala House’, Akshay Kumar was named Gattu which is unfortunately his wife Twinkle Khanna’s ex boyfriend and director Abhishek Kapoor’s nickname. It was dialogue writer Amrita Dutt's idea to name Akshay Kumar’s character as Gattu.

The three did not mind with the name rather laughed at the co-incidence. Says a source close to Akki, "Akshay and Twinkle knew his character in Patiala House would be called Gattu and were perfectly comfortable with it.

The real-life Gattu himself is amused by it. When he read his name on the promos he had a hearty laugh and even joked about the publicity he was getting.

Akki, Tina and Gattu are all friends and even attend social events together. Very few people can maintain such cordial and comfortable relationships but the three have behaved maturely about it. Akshay knew people would remark on the co-incidence but he was fine with it."
In the film, Akshay stars opposite Anushka Sharma.

A source says, "Jism 2 is going to be bigger and bolder than Jism. Pooja was looking out for someone who has a fabulous body and Mallika fits the bill. Moreover, this time Pooja has been looking out for an established face."

Pooja recently met Mallika and had a long conversation. Confirmed Pooja's father Mahesh Bhatt, "Selecting the actors for her film is entirely Pooja's domain. Moreover, Pooja is a very meticulous person. She will take her time to decide. But yes, I did do the job of making Mallika and Pooja meet. Let's see what happens."

Prithvi isn’t Indian version of ‘…Lord of Rings’

Mumbai, Feb 4 – Director Kireet Khurana, who made Ajay Devgn starrer 3-D animated film ‘Toonpur Ka Superhero’, has started working on a more ambitious project called ‘Prithvi’, which would be technically as advanced as Hollywood epic fantasy ‘The Lord of the Rings’.

The director, however, clarifies the film is not an Indian version of the Hollywood blockbuster.

‘First of all it’s not the Indian version of ‘The Lord of the Rings’. It’s of the similar epic fantasy genre as ‘The Lord of the Rings’ or ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’,’ Kireet told IANS.

He said: ‘I have already started talking to technicians of ‘Lord of the Rings’. I can’t tell you much.’

‘Prithvi’ is a symbolic, allegorical story about a man’s journey to reclaim him, set in a surreal land.

The film would be a blend of live characters with computer generated environments. Some characters would be created in Photorealistic CG Imagery, a first of its kind for Indian cinema.

A famous saying of Gandhi inspired the story of the film.

‘The story is more on Gandhiji’s saying – ‘It’s not the devils of the world, but the devil in one’s mind that needs to be fought’,’ said Kireet, who is sure it would be an exponentially high budget film.

‘It’s surely going to be a very high budget film, but can’t say how much exactly it would be. Working on many things right now,’ Said Kireet.

Currently Kireet is in the process of discussions with various producers as the pre-production is already underway.

‘The film will go on the floor by year end. We have practically started talking with many producers to produce the film,’ he said.

Sonu Sood banned from doing villain roles until ‘Dabangg 2′

Mumbai, Feb 4 Sonu Sood’s grimacing villainy in ‘Dabangg’ has got him the kind of recognition no amount of goody, goody roles ever did in nine years. Just when he was all set to unleash an avalanche of evil on screen by signing on plum villain’s roles, he was asked to keep baddy roles on hold until ‘Dabangg 2′.

‘It’s true I have been told not to expend my mean muscles until ‘Dabangg 2′. Interestingly, I’ve signed two major cop roles. One is a dream-come-true role in Puri Jaganaath’s ‘Boodha’ where I play (Amitanh) Bachchan’s son. My role is modelled on Amitji in ‘Zanjeer’,’ said Sonu, 37, who entered Bollywood in 2002 with ‘Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’.

Sonu has watched ‘Zanjeer’ 17 times in the last six months.

To his command over the Bachchanesque style of law enforcement in ‘Zanjeer’, including that famous body-flying-across-the-air for a full impact hurl against the adversary that had the crowds roaring when Big B did it in 1973, Sonu will add the inner knowledge of a cop’s world.

For that intense preparations are on. Sonu, who is from Punjab, recently spent a fortnight with a senior police officer in Punjab to understand the mind, body language and spoken language of a cop.
‘I’ve spent time with DGP (Director General of Police) P.S. Gill. He has helped me understand how a cop functions,’ said Sonu.

The law enforcement skills would help Sonu with his other role this year as well.
‘I again a play cop in Kabir Kaushik’s underworld drama Maximum. I had no intentions of doing any other film except ‘Boodha’ this year. And that too another role as a cop! When I read the script of ‘Maximum’, I was bowled over. I will play this cop very differently from the one in ‘Boodha’,’ the actor said.

The two films will take Sonu Sood to the end of this year.
‘And then it’s back to villainy in ‘Dabangg 2′. Badman Returns,’ laughed Sonu, who played important role in ‘Jodhaa-Akbar’ and main lead in ‘Ek Vivaah… Aisa Bhi’.

Javier Bardem might be the next Bond villain

London, Feb 4Javier Bardem has confirmed he’s in talks to star opposite Daniel Craig in the upcoming 23rd 007 movie, which is due for release in 2012.

The Spanish actor has met with the film’s director Sam Mendes to discuss the role, and although he has yet to sign a contract, he reveals he’s thrilled about the possibility of joining the James Bond franchise as the latest villain

“I’m a huge fan of the James Bond saga. When I was little, I went watching Mr. Connery doing James Bond with my father. “I’d be playing Bond’s nemesis, yes, but it’s not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced… But who knows? Maybe I will go back home saying, ‘I have the world in my hands.’ Evil can be very seductive,” he added. (ANI)

Gisele Bundchen slammed for describing sun lotion as ‘poison’

London, Feb 04 – Cancer experts have criticized Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen for describing sun lotion as “poison”.

Despite having previously starred in an advertising campaign for a range of sun creams, Bundchen said she does not use the products herself.

“I cannot put this poison on my skin,” she said, referring to the widespread use of chemicals in lotions to absorb UVA and UVB light.

Dr Dolival Lobao, head of dermatology at Brazil’s National Cancer Institute, condemned her comments.

“Sunscreen prevents damage to the skin and is of fundamental importance for the prevention of cancer,” the Telegraph quoted Lobao as saying.

“This is not any poison. When a public person makes a statement like this, it creates confusion and I find that regrettable,” Lobao added.

Jessica Harris, senior health information officer at Cancer Research UK, said: “Using sunscreen with at least SPF15 can help to protect your skin, along with spending some time in the shade and covering up with clothing.

“Sunscreens are fully tested before they can be sold and are not harmful to the skin,” Harris added. (ANI)

Lindsay Lohan ‘not worried’ about facing prosecution over ‘necklace theft’

Washington, Feb 4 – Hollywood star Lindsay Lohan is facing a criminal charge after being named a suspect in the theft of ‘high-end jewellery’.

However, a source close to the star has told Fox News that the whole story appears to be a ‘big publicity stunt’ and she is not worried on facing prosecution.

“It’s totally ridiculous, Lindsay didn’t steal the jewellery. She knows she didn’t do anything wrong so she isn’t worried,” said our insider, adding that Lohan is ‘100 percent sober’ and in positive spirits.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that they have video footage of Lohan wearing the missing necklace and that a warrant to search Lohan’s Venice residence was requested on Tuesday.

According to reports, the actress attempted to dodge a bullet Wednesday when she was ‘tipped off’ about the potential warrant, just before the necklace was hastily returned to an LAPD substation.

Lohan has claimed that she did not intentionally steal the jewellery, rather it was ‘borrowed’ from the store on January 22 and she returned it to a stylist who then neglected to give it back.

But according to TMZ, returning the item doesn’t mean she is out trouble just yet.

The District Attorney is expected to examine the case this week and decide whether Lohan should be prosecuted over the alleged theft.

And that could mean big trouble for the ‘Mean Girls’ star, although it may be hard to prove.

“If she did in fact do something criminal, this would be a violation of her probation and they could punish her for that,” said California Criminal Defense Attorney Angelyn Gates.

“We don’t really know what the truth is right now but assuming what Lindsay has said is true, this seems like a big waste of everyone’s time, she said.

“There is no proof that Lindsay is the one that actually stole it,” she added. (ANI)
