Sheila Ki Jawaani, TEES MAAR KHAN and naming of the songs

All the Sheilas of the world may be rather flabbergasted by the odes being paid to their "Jawaani", through the song, Sheila Ki Jawaani from TEES MAAR KHAN, but Hindi cinema has been rather consistent in their efforts to include names in songs right from the time when Shashi Kapoor followed in the footsteps of his elder brother Shammi Kapoor to jig. It is an ephemeral phenomenon that lasts for the time being, and later on people forget it.
The difference from those times to these times could lie in the fact that now there is such a big proliferation of all kinds of media and the nature of interactive embedded in them, the names may be difficult to go out of the vogue for some time. Otherwise, do we at all remember that a Jumma was asked to give a chumma by Big B in HUM? Well, at the time when HUM was released, the song was a rage. Or for that matter, O Maria O Maria from SAAGAR must have enraged quite a lot of Marias, and they would have rued about their names. Or for that matter, does anybody have an inkling that a song called "mera naam hai shabnam, pyaar se log mujhe shabbo kehte hain" from the film KATI PATANG was also an all time hit during its time?
As a matter of fact the phenomena of naming the songs after a female name is not relegated to the world of Hindi cinema, it is a distinct reality in the world of English pop as well. One of the most famous bands of its times Smokie had two all time great hits named after two female names, one was Shelly called, and the second was O Carol. If one were to do a search for these songs in the Google search, one would find that these two songs are the songs that have maximum download. But neither a Shelly nor a Carol protest when these songs are played even to this day. Possibly, it could be owing to the fact that there is a sense of understanding in the audience that these songs are in context of the film, but the Romeos of the times try to capitalize on the song to play mischief with the girls having either of these names.
The moot point is these kind of songs come once in a blue moon and it is only coincidental that the names being written in the lyrics have numerous faces associated with the name and they have to live with the (in)famy associated with the song for the time it is in vogue.

Lady Gaga waxwork lookalikes unveiled around world

LONDON (Reuters Life!) - Eight wax models of "Poker Face" singer Lady Gaga were unveiled by Madame Tussauds waxwork museums around the world on Thursday, each dressed differently in celebration of the star's provocative style.
London's version of the current queen of pop had her dressed in a Giorgio Armani suit accessorised with Rococo coifed hair and a Philip Treacy hat in the shape of a telephone, a reference to one of her biggest hits.
The museum chain spent around $2.4 million on the project, banking on legions of fans queueing up to catch a glimpse of a replica of their idol.
"Each of the figures is styled differently and each of the launches has been a surprise outfit," said Madame Tussauds sculptor Stephen Mansfield in London.
"It's a nice little bit of fun and it adds to the hoopla around the whole Lady Gaga figure."
One Lady Gaga fan at the London launch, Yvonne Fam, said the singer was an inspiration.
"She doesn't care what anyone thinks. She just stays true to herself and she's very inspirational," she said.
The other participating cities were New York, Las Vegas, Hollywood, Amsterdam, Berlin, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Lady Gaga, 24, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, has dominated the music world for the past two years, turning out dance hits like "Bad Romance", and "Telephone" and amassing more than 20 million followers on Facebook.
Her 2008 album "The Fame" has spent more than 100 weeks on the U.S. Billboard charts and she has become known for stunts like setting her piano on fire, and dressing entirely in raw meat.

Mirch Movie Review

Movie: Mirch; Director: Vinay Shukla; Cast: Konkona Sen Sharma, Raima Sen, Boman Irani, Shreyas Talpade, Rajpal Yadav, Shahana Goswami, Arunoday Singh; Watch The Modern Woman Taking Charge Of Her Own Sex Life.
A small budget but meaningful cinema from the hands of Vinay Shukla, Mirch is clearly a thought provoking film which deals with contemporary issues such as a woman’s sexuality and gender equality in our country. Bollywood is no longer under pressure to play coy and that is clearly highlighted in the characters of Mirch, the girls shedding all inhibitions when it comes to baring all for the movie camera.
The story of Mirch introduces us to a guy named Manav who is prepared to do anything to secure a place in the film world as a successful filmmaker. However, when his initial scripts get rejected by a producer, he takes the help from the Panchatantra series to write down his own adaptation of the story of a girl who comes out unscathed even after her husband catches her red handed in bed with another man. While there are complains about the length of his film being short, Manav makes four modern stories inspired from the Panchatantra, all based on the subject of adultery and highly erotic in content.
As Manav’s storyline suggests, his actors will now have to shed all to enact their part in the film within a film. Mirch is thus a combination of four stories. The stories are thematically linked to one another but speak about four different sets of lives. Viewers are eagerly waiting to watch Vinay Shukla’s interpretation of the women who have a mind when it comes to sex.

‘No Problem’ Movie Review: Will Really Make You Forget Your Problems

Film: No Problem; Cast: Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Sushmita Sen, Kangana Ranaut; Director: Anees Bazmee.
Director Anees Bazmee promises to take you through yet another joy ride after the super successful No Entry. And this time too we hope that he will present before us another ‘laughathon’. Though the cast has undergone a change and we will see the ever eccentric Kangana Ranaut putting on her comic shoes for the first time, the Sanjay Dutt and Paresh Rawal comic timing will be the chief crowd puller from Friday.
No Problem tells the story of two thieves Yash and Raj enacted by Sanjay Dutt and Akshaye Khanna respectively and a police officer Arjun, played by Anil Kapoor, trying his best to get hold of a man called Zandulal, played by Paresh Rawal, who turns prime suspect in a case of bank robbery. However, it is actually Yash and Raj, the thieves who have committed the crime of robbing a bank. Therefore, Zandulal is constantly in search of the petty thieves.
Sushmita Sen on the other hand plays Kajal, inspector Arjun’s wife. She hates her husband for his incompetency at work and wishes to kill him each time he comes in front of her. Kangana Ranaut is Sanjana, Kajal’s sister who falls in love with the thief raj little knowing his occupation. Sunil Shetty plays the role of Marcus, a goon who is also on the lookout of Yash and Raj because he has been blamed for killing a politician who was actually killed by the thieves duo.
Larger the number of characters, larger the amount of confusion. And this is exactly what happens in Anees Bazmee’s No Problem. The irony in the name is that each character in the film has his/her own set of problems! But the audience is sure to forget all their problems when they sit down to watch No Problem.

Aguilera to take action against hackers for leaking semi-nude pics on net

London, Dec 09 – Christina Aguilera is all set to take action against the hackers who leaked her nearly-nude pictures on the net.
Aguilera’s representatives have vowed to “aggressively” pursue the computer hackers responsible for the leak.
The Dirrty hitmaker was snapped in various provocative poses, wearing nude-coloured underwear, prior to her split from husband Jordan Bratman earlier this year (10).
However, the pictures have now surfaced on various websites after an internet account belonging to Aguilera’s stylist was hacked into, according to the star’s spokesperson.
And the singer has now called in her lawyers to take action against the thieves who spread the private pictures all over the web.
“We find the actions of the hackers and the press who purchased and/or obtained these photos to be irresponsible and actionable.
We are attempting to determine the identity of the hackers and will pursue them aggressively. Their conduct is reprehensible,” the Daily Express quoted a representative for Aguilera as telling UsMagazine.com.

Black Swan Swims Only For Natalie’s Perfection

‘Black Swan’ is yet another story of a dedicated ballerina, whose life is dedicated only towards the art form. Natalie Portman plays the character of a ballerina called Nina, who works in the New York City ballet company.
Nina does it mainly for her mother Erica (Barbara Hershey), who was herself a former ballerina. She wants to fulfill her dreams through her daughter Nina and plays a very obsessive character with all control over her daughter.
Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decides to replace his former lead ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Winona Ryder) and Nina is the best replacement. But then a new girl Lily (Mila Kunis) can give her good competition. Nina is best suitable to play the White Swan with her innocence character but Lily can enact the Black Swan, who has the sensuality to suit that character. Soon, their rivalry turns into a twisted friendship and Nina starts exploring the darker side in her.
Natalie is the best part of the film with her perfection as a professional ballerina. Someone finds it melodramatic and quite absurd. It shows how Nina loses her mind while performing in the ballet ‘Swan Lake’. Portman performs her ballerina role with full perfection and she is best thing to watch in the film apart from other thrilling and mysterious side things.

Nicole Scherzinger is a beast on stage

Singer Nicole Scherzinger says she turns into a beast when she’s on stage and wants her solo songs to reflect that attitude.
“I told Red, when I go on stage I kind of turn into a beast sometimes, this other alter-ego, you know, that you kind of get to see in ‘Poison’. I want the music to bring that to life for me,” femalefirst.co.uk quoted her as saying.
“I feel like when I listen to some of the songs, I’m just like my own action hero,” she added.
The 32-year-old gave her opinion on using auto-tune, a recording effect which automatically alters singers’ voices to be perfectly in tune.
“I don’t really like auto-tune too much. But you wouldn’t have ‘Believe’ by Cher without it. I’m more classic,” she said.

Liz Hurley laces it up in sheer shirt and bra combo

A sheer shirt and a bra combination doesn’t seem to be the ideal outfit for an icy evening out, but Liz Hurley has no problems carrying it off whatsoever, and what’s more – she knows how to do it with style.
The star showed off a sheer lace shirt and bra combo, waxed denim and platform sandals on a night out in London yesterday.
Lace has been a popular fabric this year, rapidly making its way from the catwalk to the red carpet but often looks best worn with minimal accessories.
Liz had a late night at C restaurant in Mayfair last night with a friend despite having to get up early for a shoot this morning.
“Delicious dinner at Cipriani last night-then chatted to best friend til v late. 5 espressos, still can’t rev up properly,” the Daily Mail quoted her as writing on Twitter.
45-year-old Hurley would be the envy of most women half her age but reveals there is no secret to a toned figure.
“There’s no short-cut to being slim – you have to watch what you eat. I put myself under extra pressure because I still model my own bikinis,” she said.
“You must do some exercise, too. I walk every day with my dogs and try to run – even though I hate running.”
