I was joking Ranbir-Kat, Deepika defends condom jibe

Deepika Padukone
Actress Deepika Padukone says her comment on actors Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif on Karan Johar's chat show was said in good humour and that she was not targeting anyone. In fact, she would love to work with her ex-boyfriend again.

"It was tongue in cheek. Everyone knows how Karan's shows are, " Deepika told in an exclusive interview.

On the show when Karan asked Deepika what she would like to gift Ranbir, she said it would be "a pack of condoms". When asked what she would like to ask Katrina, she replied: "I would like to see her passport."

The actress clarifies that giving politically correct replies would have made the show boring.

"For us, Karan is not just an anchor, he is someone we know personally and professionally. I know him from even before 'Om Shanti Om' through Farah (Khan) and Shah Rukh (Khan).

"Secondly, everyone knows the kind of questions he asks. It's all in good humour. It's not targeted at anybody... there is no negativity towards anyone. People need to have a sense of humour. If I go and sit quietly and be politically correct, it would have been so boring, " she said.

"It was a rapid fire round and whatever comes to your mind, you have to be spontaneous. If you got to be stupid and boring, there is no point. There was an iPad and a phone that I wanted, so better I play that round well, " added the 24-year-old.

Deepika would appear on "Koffee With Karan" with Sonam Kapoor where both win the gift hamper jointly. The episode will be telecast Sunday.

"We both won actually. We both were so good that he didn't know who to give the hamper and he has given it to both of us, " she said.

The leggy actress, who took time to resume normal life after a break-up with her ex- boyfriend Ranbir, has realised that everyone has an inbuilt strength to fight back any adverse situation.

"Everyone has strength to cope with any adverse situation like break-up, financial something. You have to identify that strength, nobody can help you. Yes, your family would be there, your friends would be there, but if you don't make up your mind that I am not allowing the situation to affect you, no one can help you come out of it.

Only you can identify the strength and come out of it. It's very difficult... easier said than done... but it's possible. I am talking from experience, " said Deepika.

Asked if she would like to work with Ranbir again, she said: "We are more than happy to work with each other. I think 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' didn't do justice to either of us, because there were two other girls. It was a big film. It was a big star cast, I mean. I would love to do a film with him and am pretty sure he thinks the same way as well."

I want to become a director very soon: John Abraham

John Abraham
Having worked in more than 30 films in seven years, John Abraham says audiences have become more accepting of his understated, realistic style of acting. He also wants to wield the megaphone soon and is sure of doing a good job as a director.
“I have good friends around me who are directors and writers. They are all willing to sit with me, help me and formulate screenplays. I have ideas and I want to become a director very soon and when I become one, I will be damn good at it,” John told IANS in an interview.
“Probably, five-eight years down the line, I’ll direct a film. I’m just seven years old in the industry. I want to first just settle down properly and singularly prove myself in a big way and then I will get into direction,” added the actor who will turn 38 next month.
John has worked in all genres – from Oscar nominated period drama “Water” to comedies “Garam Masala” and “Dostana” to issue-based “New York”.
Explaining his evolution as an actor, he said: “After all these years, I think I’ve become very comfortable with the medium, but more than myself I’ve seen a change in the perception of the audience towards me.
“I’ve always been an understated actor. I’m not into over-projection. When I joined the industry, there was a section of the audience that felt I was too understated. Today the same audiences have a different perception and somehow that same style of acting is working for them now.
“I really haven’t changed. I’m following my director’s brief and I’m doing exactly that. But people’s perception has changed. The sense of reality has prevailed in the mind of the audience and I think that’s the change I have seen.”
His nerdy look in “Jhootha Hi Sahi” failed to set the cash registers ringing, but the Bollywood hunk has not given up. He is all set to play boy-next-door in a new film.
“I’ll be starting the film in March, which will be directed by Kapil Sharma, a first time director. He is the best chief assistant director we have in the country,” said John.
“The film is about just a regular guy who gets busted by all the women in his life. It’s about a guy who learns life through the women he is with – his mother, sister, his boss, his neighbour, his girlfriend, his ex-girlfriend. It’s just about this journey. It’s amazing.”
The final title of the film is yet to be decided. “Right now it’s called ‘The Re-education of Ishaan Sabharwal’. That’s a working title,” he said.
Currently, he is busy with director Nishikant Kamat and producer Vipul Shah’s Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster “Kaakha Kaakha”. The action movie also stars Genelia D’Souza.
“I have already shot 20 percent of the film. We shot for 25 days, we have another 40-45 days left and we are done. So we finish in January end,” said John.
Is there any movie on the anvil with his actress girlfriend Bipasha Basu? Both debuted together with “Jism” in 2003 and were also seen as a couple in “Aetbaar” and “Madhoshi”.
The couple was last seen together in 2007 film “Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal”.
“I don’t know, depends on whether we are offered a good script. Till then we are okay not doing work together. Anyway there is no public display of affection in our case. We are pretty much in our own worlds,” said the actor.
